This place is terrific and comes with my highest recommendation if you are OK with the location… about a 40 min. drive to Jodhpur in the small Kherjala village.
The staff is accommodating (changed my room without fuss when I complained about the smell), polite and very honestly pointed out that I had accidentally overpaid them for a purchase I had made.
If you have not yet experienced rural India, this is a great sojourn into countryside for a day to see the life of the average Indian who are not jaded by seeing tourists 24/7. A walk through the small town below the fort yielded a liquor shop with a decent if modest selection of local beers, wine and spirits as well as plenty of opportunities to converse with locals… this was one of the only places we’ve been in India where chatting with locals does not led to a frustrating hustle.
The fort is as is the case throughout India was cobbled together in bits and pieces over the past 800 years and the pieces seamlessly flow together in one multi-temporal composition of old and new art styles and influences. The oldest part of the fort on the highest perch in the courtyard is roughly 800 years old has the most interesting, if not most luxurious rooms.
t houses the honeymoon suite which is pretty cool and “only” runs about 18,000Rs./night if you want to roll Maharaja style. You will probably get the best prices if you call them directly at +91-2930-258485 or send reservation an email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Otherwise the Royal Bedroom in the fort (203) we stayed in was very cool where stayed looked like the pictures on the website.. the coolest part ironically was the spacious and round ajoining bathroom.. which is located on the send floor of one of the towers and has a window overlooking the main hotel courtyard.
