...when in the area. But nothing special. What is really nice it the street life in the area around it. Elephants, camels, donkeys plus working men and women.

“Much more than a clock tower”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 4, 2013

Yes, the clock tower is a nice photo but there is more. Directly leading to the clock tower is the Sardar Market. There is the usual tourist stuff. Keep exploring! See locals buying their groceries and clothing. I discovered a miniature painting school that is free. Just past the main market there is a wheat market. One of the wheat sellers is an accomplished artist who teaches people how to paint Rajasthani miniatures for free including supplies and water and tea. His grandfather paid for his ten year artistic education and set him up with a gallery with one provision: Provide free lessons to locals and visitors in order to keep the cultural tradition alive. Ask the vendors where the Umaid Heritage Art School is. It's just steps from the main market. Also nearby is Maharani Exporters. They provide intricate textiles to major European fashion houses. They have eight floors of chaos. Beautiful fabrics suitable for bedspreads, duvets, shawls, wall decorations, curtains, etc. Their claim to fame...Saturday Night Lives' Bill Murray once visited. Tourists scramble through the labyrinth of stunning fabrics looking for that special item. Some are pricey but a fraction of what you would pay Hermes for it. Also, Mohanlal Verhomal spices. Their dad, "put Jodhpur on the map for spices". An avid cook he started making custom blends of curries for different dishes. He passed away but his seven daughters continue the tradition. Indian cooking classes are also available and many teas. Check all of this out. Anyone who says the clock tower is not worth the time lost the forest through the trees.

“Very Good”

Seen it from outside, towering clock tower, with hour touching it makes the sound, surrounded by bustling market near by. Auto service available, you can see street cows and famous Janata sweet home 1 km from there on top of the nearest big 4 way crossing, Try onion kachori, chilli pakora (never tasted anywhere else like it, rs 12), malpoa (rs 15, 50gm). Enjoy.

“Nothing special - hectic, noisy, but I am thrilled with what I bought”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 2, 2013

the marketplace isn't fabulous, although the color materials available are very nice. Not a relaxing place to shop around - very hectic for international travelers.

I did buy a sari wrap and am thrilled with the colors and work on it as well as the price. I was with a group that included domestic travellers from Mumbai and International travellers from the US and Europe, all on business. The Mumbains in our group did the most shopping, so it must have good variety and prices!
