“An oasis except for the morning prayer”
Reviewed November 15, 2013 via mobile

We enjoyed our stay of two nights here. The food was excellent. Our ground floor "luxury" room (103) was spacious with a good bathroom and a private garden. This place is off the beaten track and there were some problems with our arrival. You can 't beat the view of the fort. Service was excellent. Would stay here again.

We only had time to stay in this hotel for one night which was really ashame as it was just a great place. The hotel is in the middle of the city with chaos on all sides, but the hotel grounds are sheltered from all of that. The views of the fort are amazing and the food at the restaurant was extremely good. Although the hotel is a bit pricey...you honestly get what you pay for at the RAAS. We highly recommend this hotel...especially for couples.

Yes the 4am morning call to prayers are very loud and do last longer than the hotel says. If we had brought our young children this would have been an issue.

We arrived in Jodhpur in mid afternoon and immediately went to see the fort (which was an amazing site) and following the fort visit we walked through the market where the clock tower is. Because it was just before the Diwali festival, the place was mobbed.
We reached the hotel 30 minutes later and it was like reaching an oasis after being in the desert. The place is gorgeous, built of reddish sandstone, beautiful pool and restaurants with a view of thefort. At night the fort is illuminated and the view from the hotel is breathtaking. We had a room with a private garden and a beautiful bathroom. Service is first class. Meals at the restaurant were great. Overall a terrific experience eventhough we were awakened at 5:00 AM with the call to prayer from the mosq next door

My wife and I just finished a three nights stay at the RAAS. Except for the evening prayers which last a little more than the management proclaims, this hotel was the best hotel we have EVER stayed.
People were wonderful, rooms were beautifully arranged and the food was as good as any place in India.
If you can afford the RAAS and are going to Jodhpur, then this hotel, for the reasons noted above, is as good as it gets!!!

Room Tip: Depends on what you can afford but all rooms will be outstanding no matter the costs. We had a fort...

This is a difficult review. A great hotel with a wonderful view of the fort in Jodhpur from its base in the walled city. A beautiful spacious room plus private garden and top quality bathroom - all things we value. Good pair of restaurants with food comparable with the better hotels in India and charming very helpful staff. Exciting architecture combining very modern with the very old. All in all this ranks up with some of the best hotels we have experienced around the world. BUT as I write at 9.00pm the local Iman has entered the second hour of his arabic diatribe (I imagine understood by few of the Muslim community that comprise just 30% of the population of Jodhpur). The sound permeates our bedroom and was much worse in the outdoor restaurant as it booms across the city. It has ruined our evening meal for the second night running and we still have the 5.00am call to prayers to look forward to despite the earplugs thoughtfully supplied by the management. Why the city allows this minority group to be so invasive of the sound waves I do not understand. An unforgettable experience - for the wrong reasons.

Fantastic location with a breath taking view of the fort. You can walk to the fort from here. The gardens and pool area make it difficult to leave. The rooms are very nice. The rooms at the back face a street which is noisy so going for a room in the front building might be better, though you might not get the same view of the fort.

The mosque next door is noisy but they supply earplaugs at night. It is a great place and worth staying and using the earplugs.

Pay attention now!
Raas is INSIDE the walls of the city, right under the breathtaking walls of the neck-craning cliff- top Mehrangarh citadel, in the midst of the ultra holy Blue City. So no pork or beef here!
The entrance to the hotel is spectacular, by day or night, as you pass from the welcome reception to the inner courtyards...at which point ...LOOK UP!
Whatever you have read in CN Traveler or Tatler...this beats your expectations by a mile. Yes, you can stay (as I have) in the wonderful Umaid, the Taj staffed, Maharajah-owned, fantasy palace, just two miles outside the city walls. In fact you definitely should! It's awesome.
But the Raas is up close and personal. It's noisy. When the city gets clanging (forget the nearby mosque...they give you earplugs for the 5.45 am event...and none of my team used them) you feel very much involved. Sit out on the roof top of the restaurant(s) and this is something very thrilling.
Yet it really is a haven of calm during the day... and very professional, sympathetic, relaxed, top of the range service.
We stayed only two nights, sadly. We did all the touristy things (do the zip wire at the Fort...amazing... really!). We should have stayed longer because there is much more that this very groovy hotel can help with, including guides, ideas, shopping...you name it.

Room Tip: Suites in the 'designer' block with balcony views facing the Fort

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Inside the Walled City of Jodhpur and under the imposing stare of Mehrangarh Fort, sits RAAS. The site was formerly the home of the aristocratic Thakur family, and the original 18th-century haveli has been carefully renovated to produce the four old buildings of the hotel. The three new buildings are modern and contemporary in their use of space and light, and yet are grounded in tradition. Jodhpur's red sandstone unites the new with the old, with modern designs in its latticing and carving adding a fresh dimension to the region's age-old stone carving industry. This seamless harmony between the old and the new, the modern and the traditional, extends to all aspects of RAAS. Almost all of the rooms have magnificent views of Mehrangarh Fort from both the private terraces and from the cast iron bathtubs, and those that don’t have their own private gardens and views over the old haveli and landscaped gardens of RAAS. The rooms are furnished with state of the art amenities: all rooms are air-conditioned with the latest eco friendly machines, and have overhead fans, hairdryers, safes, central heating, wi-fi, TV, telephones and en suite bathrooms. There are rooms with easy access for the handicapped and non-smoking rooms. RAAS boasts two fine dining restaurants, which offer both Indian and International cuisine: Darikhana is a beautiful terraced restaurant and the Baradari Café is inside the old pavilion and offers a relaxing location near the pool. There is also a luxury spa that offers a full range of treatments and a boutique shop. RAAS is the ideal place to soak up the rich local heritage of Jodhpur while at the same time indulging in opulent luxury and comfort. As soon as you drive through the old wooden gates in RAAS’s very own blue tuk-tuk, the majesty of Mehrangarh Fort will be tempered by your sense of relaxation. ... more   less
