“Fantastic hotel in Jodhpur”
Reviewed January 16, 2013

Incredible views of the fort from the hotel and the room too. The service was great and it is a oasis of calm and peace in Jodhpur. They also have a great spa and the food at the restaurant was great, one of the best we tried. Staff are great too and very good service. Highly recommended.

This hotel has dramatic views of the fort behind it, especially impressive when lit up at night. The rooms are modern and tasteful with stunning bathrooms, comfortable beds and functional yet luxurious furnishings. The service was exemplary and the food very, very good. Breakfast is a combination of buffet and a menu with table service. The spa was exceptional and I had the best massage I have experienced anywhere in the world at a most reasonable cost. The pool area is lovely surrounded by beautiful landscaping and another great view of the fort.

We loved our stay at this property which is quite rightly featured in many coffee table books highlighting small luxury properties around the world.

Raas is in the middle of the old town so one has to take a tuk tuk through the chaos of the market to get to the hotel. However, once there, one is presented with an oasis of calm. The public areas, in restored old havelis, are peppered with a few new buildings in which the rooms are located. The entire property then has a backdrop of the stunning Mehrangarh Fort. The rooms are modern and very comfortable. The dining areas are beautiful, especially lit up at night, and both the western and Indian food selection was delicious. Staff are fairly well-trained and eager to assist.

We decided to spend a night at Raas on our way back from Jaisalmer since it was my wife's birthday and it came highly recommended by some friends. The approach to the hotel is horrendous to say the least, its inside the walled city to you have to maneuver through crowded narrow lanes which we were not expecting. After entering the hotel, it was like a retreat, you get wowed by the views of the imposing Mehrangarh fort. The hotel is an old converted haveli but still has a very contemporary and chic feel to it. The decor and rooms are very modern and sophisticated. The hotel arranged a cake and a bottle of wine for my wife's birthday with their compliments. The views of Mehrangarh Fort from their roof-top bar was just mesmerizing. One of the best located bars that i have been to. The music however could've been better.

We ate 3 meals there and the food was delicious with a good variety of both Indian and International choices. The presentation was very impressive. On our way out, the hotel arranged their own tuk-tuk driver to escort us to the highway as it becomes difficult to drive in the busy market. Overall, excellent service, excellent rooms and hospitality. Would love to go back. The only down side is the approach if you are driving on your own.

Room Tip: Try to opt for the Luxury Rooms with a view of the Fort.

This hotel is a great surprise once you have been around Jodhpur!! The hotel is architectural well built. The details of the walls and stone feature matches the Mehrangarh Fort that surrounds the hotel. The service from reception to the restaurant is just superb!!
We had a special dinner organized for us by the garden, near the pool. It was a 4 course Indian meal ; discussed and well prepared by the chef. Superb!!!!
The rooms are well furnished, clean and ours had a balcony overlooking the impressive Fort.
Highly recommend!!

A small but very nice and lovely hotel, we enjoyed our stay very very much. The hotels architecture is modern and beautiful, our rooms had a spectacular view to the fort. The design of the rooms and bathroom are very pleasing.
The service over all was very good and we were very happy with the food in the restaurant, it was excellent.
The small boutique in the hotel has tastefully selected items.
We've seen a couple of hotels in India throughout our trip and this is one of the best.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Inside the Walled City of Jodhpur and under the imposing stare of Mehrangarh Fort, sits RAAS. The site was formerly the home of the aristocratic Thakur family, and the original 18th-century haveli has been carefully renovated to produce the four old buildings of the hotel. The three new buildings are modern and contemporary in their use of space and light, and yet are grounded in tradition. Jodhpur's red sandstone unites the new with the old, with modern designs in its latticing and carving adding a fresh dimension to the region's age-old stone carving industry. This seamless harmony between the old and the new, the modern and the traditional, extends to all aspects of RAAS. Almost all of the rooms have magnificent views of Mehrangarh Fort from both the private terraces and from the cast iron bathtubs, and those that don’t have their own private gardens and views over the old haveli and landscaped gardens of RAAS. The rooms are furnished with state of the art amenities: all rooms are air-conditioned with the latest eco friendly machines, and have overhead fans, hairdryers, safes, central heating, wi-fi, TV, telephones and en suite bathrooms. There are rooms with easy access for the handicapped and non-smoking rooms. RAAS boasts two fine dining restaurants, which offer both Indian and International cuisine: Darikhana is a beautiful terraced restaurant and the Baradari Café is inside the old pavilion and offers a relaxing location near the pool. There is also a luxury spa that offers a full range of treatments and a boutique shop. RAAS is the ideal place to soak up the rich local heritage of Jodhpur while at the same time indulging in opulent luxury and comfort. As soon as you drive through the old wooden gates in RAAS’s very own blue tuk-tuk, the majesty of Mehrangarh Fort will be tempered by your sense of relaxation. ... more   less
