The Kothi Heritage

Easily the most comfortable and hospitable stay we've had in any hotel all over India, was at Kothi Heritage, Jodhpur.
Attention to detail and warm atmosphere are just add-ons of what we can call the most amazing holiday experience. Food was great, rooms were clean and comfortable , staff was extremely well-behaved, indoor and outdoor decor was awesome, the hosts Tapan and Trideep are like rare gems who treat guests with royalty! They ensured that we were able to plan our trips to various locations in real-time. For the money spent, it was worth the value of every penny.
To be honest, we did not have a plan in place, but Kothi Heritage ensured that we never needed one. All in all, Jodhpur seemed like a trip to paradise, with red carpet laid out in whichever direction we decided to go...

I was skeptical when we booked this hotel to see every single review being positive … immediate reaction was this must be staged through free drinks or free food LOL. But after staying at the Kothi Heritage, I am not surprised at all. This place deserves all the kudos it gets, and more.
Run by two brothers, Tapan and Trideep, this used to be the residence of the Commander in Chief of the Jodhpur Army during the reign of Maharaja Umaid Singh (he who built Umaid Singh Palace). It’s now been done up to become a hotel with Suite and Executive Rooms though the neighbourhood, which used to be the Kothi grounds earlier, is now a residential locality of Jodhpur. It may not boast the swimming pool of a 5 star hotel, or the lush lawns and fancy restaurants but what makes this place way better than them is the level of personal service one gets – from delicious vegetarian food cooked specially for you, to guidance given on where to eat outside so one doesn’t get Delhi-belly (should that be Jodhpur-belly ?), help in prioritizing what to see, getting cars with reliable drivers arranged, etc, etc. What is also refreshing is that the hotel is not focused on getting as much money as possible out of you – eg. where taking a tuk-tuk is economically better than hiring a car, they will tell you the former, rather than arrange a car and get a commission on the deal; or instead of arranging a spurious tour guide at inflated rates as many hotels do, they will tell you where to go to find the best government approved guides, etc.
Additionally, in India one tends to be ignored in favour of the ‘foreigner’ – though I am of Indian origin and was travelling with a German friend, I loved how this hotel treats all guests, Indian or foreign as equals … and all guests equally hospitably.

I stayed with three colleagues for several nights in mid-November 2010 - wedding season in Jodhpur. I had previously stayed in Jodhpur 5 years ago in a 'Comfort' level tour of a major adventure travel group. This accommodation surpassed the 'Comfort' level: big suites, all different, very attentive service and no request too much trouble - particularly transport. The four of us enjoyed the high standard of service and the feeling of care taken in this property which also houses the extended family. We would recommend it to anyone looking for a very high standard property at a very reasonable price. If in Jodhpur again, I would certainly stay here.

The reason I'd go back and stay at the Kothi, would be for the vegetarian food - it takes a while to serve because its all prepared from scratch and is worth the wait.

We reached Kothi heritage one fine morning. Right from the moment we stepped into the hotel, all our troubles were forgotten. They booked our tickets, took care of where we should visit, arranged our car, etc. The hotel is a good example of rajasthani hospitality. If you have kids then this place is good for you as the food is non spicy and there's place for them to play around. Also there's a bakery shop right next to the hotcel, so it takes care of your sweet cravings too. The rooms are big and clean. They are a good mixture of heritage and modern facility. The decor has been done in a very earthy traditional fashion. Also since the property belonged to a commande-in-chief of the Jodhpur Maharaja, it , especially the living room, gives you a glimpse of the grandeur of that era.
the only negative I found about this hotel was that the there are very few people in the city who know about the area. So be sure to have the area properly mapped out before you venture out into the city. All in all, would I recommend this hotel? ofcourse I would.

I have been in kothi heritage hotel in nov2010. It is excellent hotel...actually it is like home away from home feel...
I had stay for two occasions. Rooms, services, food all are good
And you feel like you are in best hotel in jodhpur.
This is because the owner of property runs the hotel on his own and he cares for his customers. The owner himself stays there with family on top floor. So thing are smooth and under his control all the time.
Do stay in this heritage propery if you plan to go to jodhpur.

Trideep, Tapan and their family and staff are gentle hosts of the most considerate kind. As visiting South African business man nothing was to much trouble when it came to directing and guiding me around Jodhpur. The hotel converted from their historic home lends a unique view of classic Indian domesticity. Superb vegetarian cooking is the finishing touch....
