“unforseen situation”
Reviewed February 27, 2014

We booked 4 nights here knowing it to be the sister of Shahi Palace and it came recommended. We were not very happy due to problems some of which were not the fault of the hotel but consideration could have been made because they knew of the problem.
The 1st room at the top which we had requested had no hot water so we were moved to a room below with hardly any space to squeeze by on one side. We had requested a big room with enough room to walk around the bed and in a quiet position. We also had to ask for the room to be dusted.
That afternoon we found there was a wedding in progress. Music was continous but eventually stopped at about 11.30pm
Next day the music did not stop and when we returned at about 9.30pm the hotel moved us for 1 night to Shahi. Thankfully the groom went off at about 10pm on the 3rd night with speakers blasting out.
A good point. We went to the desert for 1 night (peace) and Shahi Palace let us use a room on return.
The most helpful person was the son of one of the brothers
The cost of the accommodation was one of the most expensive, probably due to the fact that it was festival time.
We did look at another hotel because of the noise but it was not available the day we looked so decided not to move for 2 nights. This other hotel had a very big room in the Fort a wonderful view with a bathroom of about the same quality and the same price.
Our experience has marred our outlook for this hotel. We do feel that we should have been moved to somewhere quiet at the beginning.
When we left we had hired a car belonging to Shahi Palace. It was the worst car we hired and the most expensive. We had a driver who was unable to comunicate in English, who took too many risks, did not know where our hotel was, picked up a tut tut driver to show him the way (who plagued us next day. )and then waited for a tip at the end. Which he did not get.
A sad experience

Room Tip: the two hotels have various size rooms

Star haveli and Oasis haveli are both satellites of the more well known Shahi Palace and they're both as good as Shahi. Located in the same little street just outside the fort, they offer amazing views (and Shahi's rooftop is something special). It's a very quiet area but it's centrally located and close to everything: the fort gates are 5 minutes away by walk, the market is equally close, which makes it better than staying in the fort. The rooms are, at their rate, an amazing value. The finishings in sand stone and antique furniture makes it a top hotel in this class. While the cheap little guest houses in India are often great, this is one is closer to a proper hotel and has chosen a more "professional" approach, and it work really well. It still feels like a family thing and the management is amazing: free pick up/drop off, extremely helpful whatever you may need, come check in with you after your arrival to see if everything's fine. A top deal.
The whole staff is really nice and we won't forget the chai on the magnificent rooftop during sunrise, after 12 hours in a bus.

Room Tip: If you booked shahi palace but end up there, don't feel gruged, it's actually as good and is...

In the middle of August the Haveli is empty and quiet. Rooms are quite spacious and comfortable, the Nepali staff person was very friendly, smiling all the time and was ready to fulfill all our wishes. 10 out of 10 for him! We caught the few days when it is raining in Jaisalmer and traditionally the middle of a haveli is left open, thus it is raining inside the house. The stairs got very slippery and I flew down some 3 meters of them. That's one thing to be very careful about.

There is no restaurant or cafe, for that purpose you need to go to the neighboring Shahi Palace, which has a roof-top restaurant with a view on the Fort. Another option is to explore numerous eateries inside the Fort itself.

Price is relatively quite high, even when it is raining and there are no customers - we paid 750 rupees for one room, without a view on the Fort. The bathroom didn't have hot water, but if you really want it, the staff is ready to give you a bucket of boiled water.

Room Tip: Most probably, the best ones are those with a window opening towards the Fort.

The Star Haveli is part of three hotels right next to each other and I believe the owner was one and the same. Me and my friend decided to extend our stay in Jaisalmer, so because of bookings they hosts had to move us twice from one of their hotels to the other, so basically we slept in all three. Let's say Shahi Palace is the fancy one, but I didn't feel any difference at the Star Haveli - it was all clean and nice, sandstone everywhere, we were staying in a room near the reception, but we weren't disturbed, not for once.

I would definitely go back again!

We were booked into the Oasis Haveli, an offshoot of the Shahi Palace. We were to spend one night here before moving to the Shahi however because our room was occupied by someone who was ill and had extended, we were asked to go to the Star Haveli. What a win, we had the 2 rooms on the top floor and they were exceptional, beautifully furnished with great views of the fort and a lovely observation deck on the floor above us. I would highly recommend this haveli provided that you get these rooms. Khan, the man who looks after the Star, is exceptional helpful and went out of his way to make our 3 night stay a really memorable one. Thanks Khan!

Room Tip: This Haveli does not have its own restaurant but one has full use of the restaurant at Shahi Palace...

We landed up at Star Haveli by default. Our booking was for one night in Oasis Haveli and two nights in Shahi Palace (2 sister properties) but when we arrived we were asked if we would mind spending the first night at Star and then move to Shahi as planned. Well it was the best thing that could have happened and we decided to spend all three nights at Star. Our family had the two rooms on the top floor with easy access to the rooftop terrace and for the most part we kept our doors open and treated it like home. The rooms and bathrooms are large, beautifully decorated and clean. Kahn was always on duty to see to our needs and really made our stay a most memorable one. The haveli is on a quiet street close to, but with awesome views of the fort. Meals are served on the rooftop terrace at Shahi palace and both food and views are highly recommended. We loved Jaisalmer and our stay at Star haveli definitely made it all the sweeter.

We had the top floor to ourselves with the roof top just one floor up. We were very comfortable and felt very much at home in this haveli. Khan the up keeper of the hotel is very helpful and will try his hardest to make your stay as comfortable as possible, he is also very friendly and always in a good mood. The roof top is great and gives you an amazing view of the fort and the surrounding area. Would definitely stay here again if I came back to Jaisalmer.
