This hotel is situated within the fort itself therefore everything within the fort is only a few minutes walk.

I emailed them before we arrived and they picked us up as arranged for free at the train station which was a relief given the 45 + degree heat!

The hotel itself is tucked away down an ally so would be hard to find unless already knowing about it but it's worth it.

We stayed in room 9 which is within one of the old look out posts so we had a near 360 degree view of the desert. The room was nicely decorated in a traditional Indian style with a fan and a huge comfortable bed.

The hotel is basic so don't expect A/C or breakfast but it was so cheap I don't think you could complain (we paid 450RPS for low season) and the atmosphere and staff were excellent.

It had a roof top restaurant which was excellent too and great value and they also offered Western style breakfasts.

Wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

Room Tip: Request room 9 for couples!

Ok its not the Sahara but its still a desert and Jaisalmer is right out there. It is on what was an ancient trading route and a key point in the journey - still is judging from the activiity at the military airbase. Accom was fantastic, staff never plagued us for tours etc and really helpful. A total chill out period for us; especially as the day got cooler. Over looked the town and desert but no road noise - it was the half way point of our back pack through India and everyone here was totally chilled and there was hardly any "you buy you buy" going on.
Plenty of great foodies around and a pleasure to be there.

This hotel is used by Intrepid and is a great little family run hotel. Fab veg cafe upstairs on roof with amazing views of the district. Room was really lovely, but simple.

I stayed at Deepak Rest House in September 2009. From the turret windows my room had the the most stunning views out across the Thar Desert, the room was clean and simple with a bathroom. Winding ancient stairs take you to guests rooms or to the rooftop restaurant again with magnificent views. There is an area spread with cushions and low tables for a laid back breakfast or dinner or if you like there are table and chairs also. The food was great, the staff friendly and courteous. There in internet access downstairs next to the foyer. The hotel is up one of the many winding streets in the fort, but easy to find once you get your bearings. I did a camel safari organised from this hotel. It was absolutely fantastic. I had 6 weeks in India and this hotel is one of my memorable experiences.

I stayed here as part of a group in August 08. This guest house was a truly great place. The roof terrace has gorgeous views out over the city ant there is a fab low table with floor cushions where you could sit and chill out for hours in the sunshine. The staff were very attentive but not in your face, they were very nice, friendly, humble, polite men who could not do enough for you, including squeezing copious amounts fresh orange juice to go with our drinks. The food was very cheaply priced and was very tasty, and was served fairly fast by Indian standards. Our room was basic but clean and the only thing I could hold against it was thst here was no air-con in our room. All the rooms were different and it really was like staying with friends. Also, they do fantastic chai! Would love to return here, it was idyllic.

Great location inside the fort, with great views of the fort walls and outer part of the city. This place is a bit hard to find, tucked away inside a courtyard off an alley. Excellent panoramic views from the rooftop restaurant. Restaurant serves western and Indian food at reasonable prices.

Our room was very spacious, traditional, and tastefully furnished with a small sitting area. Very clean and homey. Limited access to wall outlets. The bathroom is a bit small, no separate area for the shower (typical in India). Showers are lukewarm at best, not hot.

Staff is super friendly and helpful, and very hospitable. You feel like you are living in someone's house instead of a hotel.
