we booked 3 twin sharing rooms for 6 of us. The hotel is quite centrally located, close to the fort etc. and we were accommodated in the ground floor which was dark and dingy. The room has a nice window in one corner of the room atop a raised sitting area, nicely cushioned. Alas, you can not open the window for blaring hindi film songs being played just outside this window which is an open air banqueting place!
Our trouble with the place started the moment we went to the washroom to have a hot shower after a long road car drive from jodhpur and wanted to have a hot shower to clean us up. after many visits by the staff of the hotel , what we received as a final solution, was a bucketful of hot water, nothing wrong under the circumstances, except the bathroom had no mug to lift and spray water on our perched bodies.
The tariff ( INR 5000/room/night ) was inclusive of breakfast and dinner which are always in short supply ( large number of domestic groups with wailing children to give company make sure food disappear at a faster rat than they are supplied ) except some bread slices left in a vessel being heated from underneath ! Dinner was hot and nice except they had no description of food in the buffet resulting in mutton dish getting mixed up with some strange looking local vegetable curries.
the waiters were nice , very simple ( looked unwashed, tired and wearing same uniforms round the clock ) but did not understand what it meant to be in the business of customer service. Most of the time, they were left alone to manage a confused pack of travelers with complaints and demands without visibility of any manager or supervisor around.
we stayed for 2 nights ( no choice to move out as entire tariff was prepaid in avance )and please note that unless you hand over the key to the reception, your room will not be cleaned or linen changed. In our case , we left keys of 2 rooms in one room and gave the 3rd room key to the reception with a verbal instruction for housekeeping but then only the 3rd room was attended to, not theother two.
in short, this is an overpriced hotel, not suitable for relxation ( noisy kids and film songs will be your constant companion ) and with a big question mark over its cleanliness and question on hygiene for the food and meals the hotel serves.
Please don't let the bad experience of this hotel mar your tryst with a beautiful and majestic Jaisalmer. We shall return but make bookings in other hotel, plenty of which are around with much comfort and value for money, which we found out during our interaction with other travelers.
