Gorgeous place a bit out of Jaisalmer which we found ideal. It can be busy and noisy closer to town so we were happy to spend the couple of minutes in a tuk tuk to go into town then return to the peace and quiet of the Rang Mahal. Pool area is lovely and the building resembles a palace. Rooms are modern, lovely decore and very comfortable. I would not hesitate to stay here again or recommend to other travellers. Staff were wonderful.
There was the occasional mig jet fly over - there is an airforce base nearby. It was not something that would deter me from staying again and didn't mind having Migs fly over occasionally, given you are approx 100kms from the Pakistan border!

The Rang Mahal hotel is an excellent hotel that also provided us great value for money. The staff was very friendly and courteous, and went out of their way to please customers... They had one of the best North Indian food we had in our 7 day tour of Rajasthan. Good spread of breakfast buffet... The ambience of the hotel is quite and relaxing. Would definitely recommend it to my fellow travelers visiting Jaisalmer.!

We stayed at Rang Mahal this last december when on a family trip to Jaisalmer. Upon Check in, it turned out that they did not have our reservations, after searching for a few minutes (seemed a while, especially after the four hour drive from Jodhpur) they finally checked us in to our rooms.

The rooms were adjoining rooms, with fairly ample space. the beds were nice and comfortable. The TV had channels in the russian language which was a little weird to say the least. Linens and things were well provided as was bottles of water. The A/C system took a while for it to cool the place down, but eventually it cooled it to comfortable temperature. Our view on the other hand was a disaster, as it was on the ground floor, it faced nothing but rain water drainage system, grass and mud. The bathrooms were nice, though a little oddly designed, while the water pressure, which is a problem in many four star hotels in India was quite good.

The restaurant was ok. It served exotically named dishes, but the taste itself was less than satisfactory. We had one dinner and three breakfasts at the restaurant, which were all buffet style dining. THe dinner on the first night was decent but that could have just been because we were exhausted from the whole day of traveling and just wanted a bite to eat. Breakfast was a large spread, with a live egg station. but the entire buffet tended to run out of food very quickly and was replenished as fast. The servers, perhaps looking for big tips, only seemed to care about the foreigners staying at the hotel, almost ignoring the Indian guests. Service for us (indians) was lackadaisical to say the least.

THe pool was out in the open, so it was freezing. THe number of flies around the area was overwhelming and ordering a snack while laying by the pool was not my finest choice. the swarm of flies had more of my food than i did.

Every night the hotel organized a outside dinner and show, the show though was the same each night and the repetition got very boring very fast. THe dancers werent great, and the addition of a belly dancer was very out of place and odd.

THe bar was well stocked, but exorbitantly expensive. The bar tenders were involved in their own gossip more than trying to cater to the needs of the people. The magazine selection consisted of inflight magazines that some of the patrons had left behind.

The staff was at times courteous, but most of the time ignored/took a very long time on requests from Indians. Most Indians complained about that during their stay.

I was less than thrilled about my stay simply due to the staff behavior and mannerisms, especially when catering only to the many foreigners staying there. Getting information about activities and places to see was hard as well. It seemed like they either just didnt know or didnt really care.

We stayed at Rang Mahal for 2 nights during our Rajasthan trip and it was the best hotel we had. Rooms are well equipped, clean and calm. Whole hotel seems to be well maintained. Breakfast is standard - but good. Dinner at the restaurant is recommendable as well. location of this hotel is a bit outside the city center (approx. 5 mins drive). From the roof top you can see the sunrise as well as Jaisalmer fort.

We stayed at the Rang Mahal Hotel for 2 nights while on a tour of Rajasthan. It was easily the best hotel of our stay. The hotel was clean and the gardens delightful. The room was spacious, well presented and quiet. The whole operation did seem to be run on a very professional basis. The only small negative was the receptionists, most of whom had a reluctance to smile – although they were always polite and helpful.

By far the best asset of the hotel, was its restaurant and in particular its Steward or Maitre d’, Khet Singh Rathore. He ran the restaurant with an amazing and seemingly effortless efficiency, with lots of time to talk to and advise the clients. After a couple of days in India, we had already learned to avoid the ubiquitous buffet and go for the à la carte where we could select real local dishes. Khet was a mine of information on the restaurant dishes and which dish complemented another. He made the stay perfect rather just good. Should we return to the Rang Mahal, one of our main reasons will be its restaurant and steward.
