“The worst place I have ever stayed in India...”
Reviewed May 9, 2013

I can't believe there are such good reviews of this hotel. I have travelled several times in India, throughout the country and have never felt more ripped off and disapointed with accomodation.
It is artificial, with poor service, outrageous prices for everything from a bottle of water to the internet and generally unhelpful staff. The rooms had no internet coverage despite having to pay extra for it. The rooms were dark and tacky with sub standard bathrooms. It is way out of town...shall I go on?

The rooms are well furnished but ours was a bit dark but this did not particularly matter. The site design is excellent and the hotel offers good service and is easily accessible by car or taxi. I would have wanted a place closer to the fort. It is not at all within walking distance to the town. The food is excellent. The hotel, like most four star hotels in Rajasthan, caters to tour groups.

This beautiful hotel would have made for an amazing experience if it weren't for its employees. I'm not saying they were useless, but after receiving such incredible service at the Tridents and other fantastic hotels on this trip, this one just didn't measure up.

Exchange #1:
Employee: coffee?
Me: may i have cold coffee?
E: coffee?
Me: no, cold coffee, please?
E: hot coffee?
M: no thank you.
(someone else comes over)
Employee 2: coffee, ma'am?
Me: no thank you.
E2: nescafe coffee?
Me: No, thank you.
E2: coffee?
Me: ...?

Exchange #2:
Me: may i have a wakeup call for 7 am please?
Employee 3: ugh. k, fine, 7 am. welcome, bye.
(staring at phone.. did I just get hung up on?)
No wakeup call came

Outside the town but with excellent view of the fort. Modern and stylish hotel. Comfortable and well-furnished bedrooms and throughout. Nice pool area and different dining options, indoors or out. Evening meals offer a good Indian al a carte option to the standard buffet, and the breakfast buffet offered a good range of Indian and other foods that changes daily.
Wifi is paid for but you can log in/out to make best use of your time.

The fort sits high above the town of Jaisalmer so it is a short taxi ride to & from the town itself. The complex seems new with extensive surrounding grounds that are not fully established in part.
However, the interior of the hotel is very comfortable & well fitted out in Indian style.
Our rooms were everything they needed to be with large, comfortable beds, good a/c & clean, modern bathroom facilities.
We ate out in town at a recommended restaurant but the buffet breakfast was varied with many European options as well Indian standards.
All staff were very friendly & helpful & I would recommend a stay here when in the area,

We spent only one night in this hotel but it was worth it. The place is new but with real style and simply nice and comfortable. Good rooms and amenities that make it totally ready for a few more nights. Staff in all areas friendly, helpful and competent. The food was good and the buffet offered varied dishes to try, and try again !! In the evening we had some music and dancers that created a nice atmosphere for after dinner. Really worth it at the price they ask !!

It looks good when you arrive. The front part and lobby featuring haveli style, some chattris on the roof top, small squares of garden here and there and cooling fountains in the courtyards.

The rooms, however, do not reflect this royal style, are a bit old and cheap with a bathroom needing visibly a refurbishment ( room 403). They are also quite dark which probably was desirable in order to protect from the summer heat. My room was big, had a big bed, sofa, a puff, chairs, safe and cattle. There was no bathrobe neither slippers which are offered only to Deluxe rooms.

The air conditioning in my room was practically inexistant. There is no possibility of adjusting temperature neither the level, hence the air conditioning box was just turning the air with hardly any cooling effect. Maybe the temperature is being set centrally depending on the seasons (?). As a result, my room was staying much warmer than the outside temperature, but i could not sleep with open widows being located on the ground floor.

Majority of the plugs in my room were not working or were in a very bad shape, but eventually you will find some good ones by pulling off lamp plugs.

There is definitelly a problem with mobile and WiFi coverage. The mobile network appears and disappears so you cannot stay connected 24 h. WiFi connection is complex with password system that you get from the reception. However, even with help of IT specialist of the hotel, we were not able to establish connection on my IPad.

There is a big swimming pool with a good service around it. In general, I found hotel service being above Indian average. Everybody seemed to be working and responding to the expectations: reception, restaurant staff, pool staff, bellboys, doorman.

The restaurant was good with an inventive chief cook that was trying to bring some variety to the meals ( we had 2 dinners and 1 lunch in this restaurant).

There is a bar on the roof. From there you will be also able to observe sun setting behind the citadel of Jaisalmer.

There are some boutiques in the hotel selling postcards, albums, jewelry and scarfs. The money exchange counter had the best exchange rate for EUR I have seen during first week of my stay.
