We arranged our booking for this hotel direct with them from the UK before leaving for India. They were efficient and helpful, letting us have all the details we needed about cost and reserving us a room. Our e-mails were dealt with by Nanga Khan, who is one of the two brothers who have this hotel.
The hotel is beautiful and looks exactly as pictured. Reception is comfortable and roomy with many seats/curtained window seats and tables. There is a sweeping stairway which looks impressive. The pool is inviting although as we were in December and it was cool we didn't use it much. The rooftop restaurant was good for breakfast and I also had a special veg thali which was excellent. There is a view of fort from the roof.
The room was beautiful with two window seats including cushions and bolsters, which our children (we travelled as a family of four) claimed for sleeping. They will provide you with extra beds if you need them. Hot water is 24 hours without fail and some is made by solar power, the rest being backed up by boiler. We never ran out of hot water.
The staff could not do enough for you. They were happy to bring chai to our room. They took time to sort out my internet connection (Jaisalmer in general is not the best for this but the hotel will spend time to help you) so I was able to contact home.
Mather Khan is the other brother who has this hotel. He was courteous and helpful from the start.
We were never asked about camel trekking by any staff member. Nobody badgered us to see if we wanted to organise one. There was merely a picture on reception about which you could ask if you were interested. We were already booked to go with Trotters but wanted to come back to the hotel for the afternoon after the trek, before heading to Jodhpur. We were able to arrange a room for a small fee so that we could come back and relax, sleep/shower before heading off. They even gave us our original room back. We could have done this with Trotters without charge, but just wanted to come back to this hotel as we knew we would be so tired and wanted the familiarity of it.
When we came down to head off to the station, Mather Khan offered us a lift in his car, quite beyond the call of duty! How wonderful - to be ferried in a comfortable vehicle, listening to Indian music we recognised from films (not loud!), to have a hand shake from him on our departure and feel like we would always want to return to this wonderfully friendly and efficient place.
We had no problem getting about whilst we were there. We just walked round the corner and caught an auto which is usually 50rs to anywhere. We found Jaisalmer to be one of the cleanest places out of all that we visited (Delhi, Amritsar, Jodhpur, Jaipur, Agra) and even saw people cleaning the streets around the fort.
If you stay here, you won't be disappointed. Run with friendliness, humanity and approachability. A favourite. Next time we go to Jaisalmer, it will be our first and only choice.
