“Amazing experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 17, 2014

Thanks Prithvi for making our trip amazing. The way Damodra desert camp is managed amazing.

Starting from Jaisalmer where TANU came to pick us and next day when he dropped us at Jaisalmer, entire time was simply amazing. You get Royal treatment. They wont ask you to hurry at any stage while travelling from Jaisalmer via SAM DUNES to camp. You can spend as much time you want.SAM Dunes where they took us for only for Damodra guest and there was no other camp people. So you get full space to enjoy with no hurry.

When we reached Camp at around 7pm we were welcomed in Rajasthnai way and then we went to our camps. Here i requested Prathvi to give me one particular camp and he immediately agreed. Then best part started in this camp. Rajasthani folk music and Dance.Ths went for around 2-3hrs and during this time you will get snacks and tea to enjoy. Then folk dancer invited guest to dance with her and that was wonderful time.

Initially i was reluctant to book this camp as i was getting other camps booking in less rate but i simply followed Trip advisior comments and thanks i did so. After staying there i was happy .

Best part is entire staff (NOT ONLY OWNER) takes care of you very well. They are just ready to help you.

GO FOR IT and YOU WON'T REGRET IT.

Room Tip: All rooms are same. But personally i would recommended 7-9 as they are not just in front of resturan...

Prithvi and the staff at Damodra Desert Camp are onto something amazing here. The location as many have mentioned is great because it is not crowded or close to any other camps. They arranged pickup and drop off from the camp and gave us time to look around the fort at Jaisalmer. At the camp itself the rooms are sensational, electricity and hot water at night (in the middle of the desert) the interior is comfortable and cosy. The dinner and dancing has a great atmosphere with all the other travellers and the staff cooked non-veg just for us. The non tourist safari which they organised for the three of us for the entire day was amazing although being on the camel does hurt a bit but definitely try it out and sunset on the dunes is unforgettable. The staff also organised a chapati making course for us which was awesome fun. All in all the experience was unforgettable, come here if you can.

After we went to the Sam Sand Dunes, (we booked "shree govindam desert camp" which doesn't exist!) Damodra Desert Camp was a big release. Camp is built at a very quiet place in the Thar Desert. This camp is exactly what you expect when you are going to stay in a desert camp! Nice ambiance with nothing in the surroundings.
Damodra arranged a 3 hour camel tour through the dunes where you will never see any tourist! Only Desert!
Skip Sam Sand Dunes or don't even go to this place...Go to this camp, you will not be disappointed!

Our trip to jaisalmer was made memorable by the awesome experience we ha at Damodra Desert Camp. Mr Prithvi , the owner is a delight to talk to. Lively and friendly environment, colourful traditional folk night, luxurious rooms and above all very courteous staff.
Just visit the place and experience the serene yet adventurous atmosphere... :)

We stayed here 2 nights and took an all inclusive package- food, stay, safari and village sight seeing. Believe it or not, for living in a tent; this was hands down our best experience in the entire Rajasthan trip! ( and mind you we travelled to ranthambore, Jaipur, jodhpur, udaipur and jaisalmer). Place is very serene and peaceful. It made me forget all pressures of life. The chef is amazing at making daal baati, the best one I had in Rajasthan. Great staff and service. The owner , Prithvi takes personal interest in looking after all of the guests and he does a great job at it. Be ready to live in a tent in te middle if the desert, no fans, no luxuries, hard water; but the staff here makes your stay just a wonderful experience. We stayed at places like Sheraton and Lalit niwas elsewhere, yet these 2 days were the best 2 days of our trip!

Prithvi ji, Tanu ji, Christine - you guys are fabulous.

Our trip to Jaisalmer was amazing beyond our expectations.
Thank you for having us!

To begin with, the pickup at the railway station was right on time and we were transferred to a clean guest house to shake off our travel weariness. This was very thoughtful - giving the guests time and space to freshen up right after a long train journey.
This was 5 mins away from the station and close to restaurants where we had a really good thali.

Shortly after - Tanu came to pick us up so that we could see the Khaba ruins and Jaseri Lake, enroute to the actual Desert camp.

Slick Highways, villages, yellow sand all around us - and we're travelling in a nice Thar jeep. We loved it.

Thanks Tanu for your stories and the great company. We really enjoyed it!

The included Camel Safari was another pleasant experience - having sat on camels before I was apprehensive, but the camel drivers are extremely experienced and the camels are trained. After a few minutes of fear, I became extremely comfortable and started to thoroughly enjoy being on a lone camel, padding along in the midst of nowhere.

Soon we reached the dunes where we could stay in solitude till sunset. I know that it may not be everyone's dream, but I really enjoyed this part.

We were soon whisked away to the camp, where we were welcomed and and shown to our tents.

Clean, soft beds - ample heating, hot water, proper flushing toilets and all other amenities. The tents had it all.

We had entertainment at the camp - where one of the musicians gave my friend a "Mor-shank" just like that ! It was such a sweet gesture and we are really touched! We have a really nice souvenir now :)

And Bruno! He's such a cute and loveable dog! Just dont give him bread because the carbs make him really excitable :)

No experience is complete without great food, and from the vegetarian dishes to the mutton (that was prepared for us) everything left us wanting to eat more - and we would have - had our stomachs not been full to the brim!

The best part about Damodra is the people, and the sense of togetherness with which the operations are run. Its not just a job for you guys, you make an effort to connect with every guest you host.

The best example of this would be "Gulaal". When we were craving for lunch and had already checked out and were confused about what to eat, Prithvi ji came to our rescue :)

He reached out to his friend, who has a beautiful haveli known as Gulaal - which is set overlooking the Jaisalmer Fort. This was another beautiful experience - eating an amazing dish of Gutta-curry with Tawa Phulkas - in a cool afternoon on the roof-top - overlooking the entire fort. Had it not been for his help and Mr. Virendra (his friend) we mightve just eaten at some rubbish restaurant around the fort and missed out on this experience.

This is a must-repeat for us and we will surely be visiting again ! Thank you again - all of you!
