“Back to grandma's kitchen”
Reviewed February 1, 2014

Well, all the idiotic tourists (both Indian and international) who expect authentic rajasthani food to be served under the full moon by an elephant, while sitting in the bathroom of the maharaja with 2 dozen dancers and servants prancing around them can finally get back to the real india. This is truly how indian food gets authentic. Granny makes it right in front of u. And throws in some good words of advice for u to hold onto for the rest of your life. Go here and help relieve the growing madness of tourism in jaisalmer.

“Homely food and a different experience..”
Reviewed January 29, 2014

We decided to visit this place after reading the reviews on Tripadvisor.
As soon as we reached Jaisalmer fort, we dropped into her house as we have to place the order in advance. When we met her, we were wondering if we should place the order or not as Chandra Aaaji is very old and frail.

But, she assured us that she can prepare the food.
We were 6 members in total, 2 couples and 2 kids.
So, we ladies decided to stay back to help Chandra Aaji with our lunch.
Others left to visit the fort.

It took almost 1 hour to prepare the food. The food was homely, prepared in hygienic condition.
Chandra aaji is very particular of cleanliness. Kids enjoyed the food and so the elders.

Overall it was more of experience than having food. An old lady who can not walk straight, but still wants to live a dignified life. I really liked her spirit, her zest to live life on her terms.
I will surely visit her in future.

“*REAL* homecooking”
Reviewed January 12, 2014

Mrs. Vyas has been cooking for people in her home for decades. Since her husband passed away a few years back, I found that she is still serving meals to people who call in.

The food is spectacular. It's nothing like the restaurant meals that are cooked for the masses. This is the real-deal home cooked food with awesome taste.

“We were surprised”
Reviewed January 8, 2014 via mobile

I saw great reviews about this place on trip advisor so decided to visit. I was with my husband and we thought this will be a small thali restaurant. We had to reach this place after climbing a very steep fleet of stairs. When we reached the top we realised it is someone's house with one room cum kitchen and a bathroom. We were greeted by a very old lady. She gave us a printed menu and we wondered if she will be able to cook food for a thali. Everything is already cooked she told us.

We decided to stay. Food was decent homely food. But it was a very emotional meal hearing her sad stories which I was not prepared for.

We thought the idea is that she cooks and expect people to pay whatever they feel like but she was very particular about money.

In the end we felt very sad during our holiday, mediocre food and ended up paying more than we would have anywhere else.

Can visit if you are feeling very charitable.

“Inspiration”
Reviewed January 6, 2014

I had read about this place on trip advisor. I was shocked to see that this service is actually run by a very old lady who does not like to depend on her son in law. Even though she is suffering from very bad back pain, she still manages to sell 3-4 meals and make her own living. She runs this out of her very small house and I was awed by her fire for her self respect even at this age. Hats off to her efforts. The food was homely and average but visit her to experience her spirit. Also it would be better if you could let her know in advance as otherwise you may be disappointed since she can do as much due to her bad health. The location is little difficult to find but not impossible.
