Great place, I love my room, nice and clean, super quiet.....and the real bonus, the wireless connection is excellent and consistent. Great location inside the fort and spectacular views from the rooftop of the fort and the Thar desert stretching off in every direction. Definitely recommend it. I haven't done the camel safari yet but they can organize for you into the deep desert if that's what you're looking for.

Little Johnny is the best host we've had out of dozens around India, he gave us a free tour around the town, nothing too much to ask. Clean, well priced, and little Johnny faultless. Go, travellers, families, couples, all spot on

After being told of his brother's 'great cheap hotel' by a restaurant worker named Misri in Jodhpur, my girlfriend and I changed our original plans and made a booking at Deep Mahal for a couple of nights. Little Jonny met us at Jaisalmer station at 5am we were happy for the pick up, although still foggy headed after the train ride we knew something was fishy when, back at the admittedly very pretty hotel, the insipidly friendly Little Jonny made us read through all his great reviews. The fact 'he can't read English' seemed slightly odd, (funny because later he could quite easily read the receipt we'd written out) As we read aloud the reviews (no recent ones btw) he showed 'his' pictures of their camel safari. We noticed they were from Trotters Camel Safari on Trip Advisor (the best reputed in town) also some of the other photos he showed were obviously pixelated and printed from the net.
Our tired minds didn't pick up the dodginess quick enough. He made us a complimentary chai as the sun came up, and after crashing for an hour or two we moved into a proper room. As others have said, he was not bothered by the price of the room, so we got a lovely room for a seemingly bargain price. When we went to check in, Little Jonny wouldn't let us fill in the forms without discussing their Camel Safaris. The prices seemed very high and the pushiness of his sales tactic made us uncomfortable. We bargained hard and eventually got a decent price. The safari itself was brilliant. Nothing to do with Deep Mahal though, he even made out the camels were their own. Talking to our brilliant camel drivers we found out they had never even heard of our strange Little Jonny. He even made up some names of the drivers so it looked more convincing.

The hotel is pretty. The food is at best average and double the price of everywhere else. The pushiness and blatant dishonesty of the staff in order to rip off tourists is disgraceful.

Steer clear if you don't like dishonesty and sour tastes in your mouth.

Oh yeah the hotel is lovely, and oh yes they are friendly and pay whatever you want for your room, no problem, no worries, no chicken, no curries... Blah blah... Basically the friendliness is a blatant facade to sell you in to their DOUBLE priced camel safari. We didn't appreciate having the seed planted at 5am when we got there... Then not really being able to leave as we had our complimentary chai (thank you) then the OVERPRICED breakfast 200rps for some muesli?! What? "Little Johnny" LIED to us about them being their own personal camels. Our camel guides had never heard of little Johnny. They all work for an agency to where every agent and hotel use to book the safaris from. So you are getting exactly the same "deep desert" experience as the next person. Don't let him fool you! We negotiated hard... And the promises if going to 2 villages... We went to one and that was more of a village made up for tourists. the tour itself was amazing though - but as I said, that had nothing to do with deep mahal - that's all to our lovely camel guides who probably get paid nothing of the 8000rps trip for 2 people for 2 days. Although we paid 6000rps. Still more than the 4000rps for the same experience with trotters!

We arrived in Jaisalmer tired and in need of a hotel, luckily we came across the Deep Mahal Hotel, with it's beautiful rooftop view, large cosy affordable rooms, and very helpful staff, it was perfect! Little Jonny, the head of the guesthouse was very hospitable and generous, showing us around on a full tour, then efficiently and effectively booking our 3 day camal safari for a very reasonable price which was a brilliant trip filled with excitement each day! Would definitely recommend to any travelers! Best hotel in Jaisalmer!
