The Aurobindo Ashram is a must visit when you are in Pondicherry! It's a perfect example of how serene and simple spiritualism really is. The peaceful and silent environment within the Ashram walls, is perfect for closing one's eyes and getting in touch with one's inner self. The beautifully maintained and simple interiors add to the effect.

The Ashram is located in the heart of the city, just a few minutes away from the Seaside Promenade. There are strict timings for visitors (e.g. evenings from 2 pm - 6 pm). However, if one knows an Ashramite, one can request for a pass or accompany the Ashramites themselves as guests, past the visiting hours.

If you are in pondy and have a little inclination towards silence, beauty and soul enrichment then you will be at Sri Aurabindo ashram by default. Its a very serene place where the samadhi of Sri Aurobindo & the Mother are very tastefully decorated using flowers and is a place to recharge your souls.

Some special attractions: If the day of ur visit is a special day in your life then reach the ashram by 9 am and request for a permission to visit/meditate in the rooms where Sri Aurobindo & the Mother lived, if you have the faith and inclination this could be a very wonderful experience.

Visit Auroshika, the ashrams perfumery division, they sell exotic natural essential oils and perfumes which are fantastic. Just across the canal is the cottage industries of the ashram where they sell clothes and gift articles, worth a visit.

The ashram is open from 8 am to 6 pm and mondays are holidays.

This is a clam, clean and peaceful place in Pondicherry, India. As there is a pin drop silence in that place we can meditate peaceful for more than a hour. The ashram's garden is well-maintained and the flowers there seems to smile. we can enjoy the silence during the meditation near the mother's samadhi. photography is strictly prohibited inside the ashram (and also the mobile phones have to be switched off). The Ashram sells some books of mother,Aurobindo and others ,photographs, chains, rings etc.and the price is nominal. The Ashram is very close to the sea beach.

A place where you can connect with your inspiration devoid of noise, any monetary exchange, clutter. One can feel at ease and peace here. It is unlike a temple which could be crowded and people have got into a habit of paying for getting their wishes fulfilled. It is unlike a masjid where women are barred from entering.
It's a sensible person's place of worship, i say this as i am not a follower of Sri Aurobindo but still felt the peace here that the seer and the mother had wanted to bring into this world.
Only problem they don't permit children below 4 years so if you are going with younger kinds you will need to take turns for visiting the place.
