I was looking for a relaxing stay, somewhere close to Bhubaneswar, but also something a little different. I found this property on Air Bnb and it absolutely fit the bill. I cannot recommend this place more highly, Debjit and Namrata have poured their heart and souls into restoring their ancestral property as well as working incredibly hard to impact Orissa's tourism economy. The food is fantastic, I loved cycling and walking around and just lazing in the garden, reading. There is something for everyone as well as stimulating conversation with both of the hosts! Shreevidya, their daughter is a bundle of energy and a lot of fun to play with, too! Just go!
What a beautiful stay...
We were 4 friends, and we all really loved our stay in the Kila Dalijoda.
Debjit and his wife are wonderful hosts, we had lovely and very interesting talk while enjoying delicious dinners.
I totally agree with the previous reviews, everything was perfect, the rooms, the hospitality, the tour in the surroundings, the location...
An unforgettable stay! :)
Wow!! What a great place to stay. The hosts, the house and room, the food, everything a traveller hopes for. We loved the family stories, we loved the cycle trip, we loved the walk in the forest although we only saw (plenty of) evidence of elephants. We loved our trip to the saddhus, what a great guys they are. Above all we loved to stay 'at home'. All the best wishes for this hard working and entrepreneurial family and a BIG thanks from Holland!
We have lived a short but intense experience at Debjit and Namrata home.
As in a novel by Rudyard Kipling, Debjit made us dreaming of tigers and elephants crossing our footpath, showing the real tribal life and emotional Sadu's puja.
Sleeping in these comfortable rooms dense of memories, furnished with excellent taste and passion and tasting finely prepared family food gave us two days to remember. It has been a short holiday in Debjit and Namrata home but we promised ourselves to come back. We will come back in Orissa and, Debjit, you'll keep telling us those marvelous stories that belong to your beloved homeland.

I thoroughly enjoyed the five days I spent at Kila Dalijoda. Debjit and his family are wonderful hosts, and they bring to life the past history of the house and of their own Rajput families. Namrata is a born storyteller, and she has a special talent for recreating the past with her words... 7 years old Shreevidya is a special child, with a love for magic and stories... I enjoyed exploring the garden with her. And Debjit is a great guide, with an eye for détails and a deep respect for the environment. The walks and tours with him were fascinating. Both Debjit and Namrata love birds, and pointed out all the beautiful species that visit the grounds and the forest. I wish I could listen again to the Mynah concert in the trees at twillight...
I am a vegetarian, and the family was very attentive and careful to provide me with delicious meals with organic produce from the garden.
I have visited India every year for the past 12 years, and my stay at Kila Dalijoda remains a highlight! I hope to come back soon...
How should we start? Let's try it with a single sentence. This stay was an experience we don't want to miss ever.
The passion and love Debjit, Namrata and the little princess Shreevidya put into this lifetime project is wonderful to witness. You don't just stay in a so called homestay. You are invited to experience life from a totally different point of view. Surrounded by nature, tribal villages and an elephant sanctuary you are welcomed with open arms and an open heart by the whole family. If the house could speak, it would tell you nightlong stories about history, partys, families, love, fights and food and joy, let's say, life at its fullest. Debjits family brings life back into this old walls with the respect for nature and the delicate balance of the complete environment. The food you will experience here is made with ingredients from the own garden, the milk and ghee of their own cows, the fish of their own lakes and the recipes are selected from the family aswell as from the local origin. And the food was so delicious, we have no words for that.
Unfortunately we had only two nights time. So we have no other choice. We have to come back and we look forward to that.
I visited Kila Dalijoda with my elderly, but active, father and we would both rate it as one of the best experiences so far in India (and we have done a lot of travelling in India over many years). Unfortunately we could only stay for one night and wish we could have stayed for longer...but with Debjit taking us on 'tour' and the help of a late check out we managed to see and learn a lot in the time we visited...at the same time we felt relaxed and really enjoyed everything we did. It was so good to get out in the peaceful countryside of India.
We were made very welcome by Debjit, Namrata, and Shreevidya, who are a very interesting and friendly family. The food was very good and we enjoyed fresh veges grown in their garden, milk from their cows and fish from their large pond.
The large house (a 1930's hunting lodge) still has a lot of renovation to be done, and it was really nice to see the effort being put in to revive it. The area being used as a homestay is very comfortable. We booked a room with twin beds, and were given a huge and very comfortable suite, with a lounge area. On the first afternoon Debjit took us on a drive to a nearby tribal village where we saw bullocks threshing the freshly harvested rice paddy. Then we visited an old-age home for cows!
In the morning after breakfast Debjit took us on a long walk to another local tribal village which was no road access or electricity. It was a really enjoyable walk (~7km round trip) through forest area. He has good relations with the village people, and shared a lot of interesting information. I think it would also be great to cycle through the villages on the bikes he has, but as my Dad is in his 80's we didn't try that option.
All in all, a great experience for anyone who is interested in Indian village and rural life.
Congratulations to Debjit & Namratha for creating and providing a wonderful home-stay experience and sharing your lives with us. We wish you and Sree Divya all the best..and would love to visit again sometime should we ever have the chance to come to Odisha again.
