“Finest MTDC Resort”
Reviewed December 3, 2013

First of all, Thank you all contributors for helping me to opt for this one of the greatest destinations in near vicinity of Pune.

I will just mention some bullet points that needs highlighting:

1. Road to Pune (via Kothrud on Bike) - Paanshet is good - some work is ongoing still a pleasant experience
2. MTDC resort was a pleasant destination to be at - Huge premises with some maintenance in progress
3. Straight forward process - just handed over my postponed and original booking receipt printout and entry in register
4. Receptionist escorted us through all vacant rooms and helped us to choose the best one according to him (Room#3)
5. Beyond imagination, room was huge enough to accommodate 8-9 people easily with extra bed already in place
6. Clean bedsheets, rugs, towels, bathroom (with hot water facility), glasses, windows, curtains and small fixed almirah
7. Noticed that in almirah, fresh papers were placed including naphthalene balls in each corner - which I would say hard to find in any resort at such low price
8. Only !dea network works satisfactorily
9. LCD TV was OK but due to distance from bed to TV, operating via remote was a task
10. Canteen was clean enough with limited menu - veg and non-veg!
11. Once order taken, they prepare the food - time taken 15-20 mins BUT was worth!
12. No explicit room service but courteous enough to have asked if we required something
13. Great mountain view through wide windows
14. Carom board and table tennis were great entertainment in the evening time
15. For one large family group, they assisted arranging a birthday party at canteen followed by camp fire
16. Special mention of the staff, very helpful and friendly
17. Both Paanshet & Varasgaon dams are at walking distance from MTDC resort
18. Overall a great weekend and worth to be at MTDC

Room Tip: Consider Room #3 Considering this as Govt resort, be punctuate to vacate rooms at specified check...

Panshet is pretty near to where we stay in Pune. From Dhayari it takes about 1 hour 15 minutes to reach the MTDC resort. We had earlier visited Panshet once during the monsoon and totally fell in love with the greenery around. Panshet is so much underrated as a tourist spot that it feels sad. It can give a tough competition to Mahabaleshwar or Lonavala any-day. But at the same time since the number of visitors are less so in all probability you would be able to enjoy a laidback weekend devoid of crowd. We had booked the rooms online 3 days prior to our visit, though at that time we could see entire resort was empty. We started by 11 am on Saturday and reached MTDC by 12.20. There was not a soul at the reception. So we walked inside the property in search of anyone. There were some people at the dining area having lunch. My husband spoke to someone in the pantry and finally they sent someone to the reception. The check in process was fast...we sinmply entered our details in the register and were given the key. But make sure you carry the reservation details printout, because if you forget it will be a big prob for you as they only accept printout for online bookings. I had read in reviews that the rooms facing the Varasgao Dam had nice view, but we were informed that during the rainy season lot of shrubs had grown and obstructed the view. Still we wanted to see the room. The info was right there was no view of the dam from the room only plants growing. So we moved to the allotted room which was the left-hand corner most room facing the entrance.

The resort: MTDC is strategically located at the converging point of roads leading to Panshet on one side and Varasgao on the other. Also on way you have boards giving direction to the resort so no issues in finding it in the jungle area. Some part of the resort was under construction or maybe they were adding some extra wings. The front side had a garden with trees and ample parking space to park your cars and bikes. The white coloured resort is actually a building housing a number of guest rooms. Unlike in other MTDC resorts wherein you have separate cottages or suits here there are only one type of room. Though online we saw A/C rooms and Non A/c rooms but I believe all the rooms had A/c which was functional. The overall ambience is peaceful and serene. There is a col 3D map of the entire terrain near the reception. But we didnt know that 3D glasses were available with the reception.

Room : The room was huge, very spacious to hold more than 6 people. There were three single beds two of which were kept together to give the look of a double bed. Two of the walls of the room had huge glass windows...when I say huge it means huge. From one side of the room we could see the faraway mountains covered in mist. Immediately fell in love with the room. Though ideally you shouldn't keep the windows open as many forest flies may fill in your room. I used to sit on the window sill and look at the front road enjoying a cup of tea in the evening or morning. Everything was spic and span and not a trace of dirt or dust anywhere. The floors had white tiles which made the room bright. The room had LCD TV which was placed quite faraway from the beds so we had to sit on the chairs provided when we wanted to watch TV without stressing our eyes. A centre table was also provided which we used as a dining table more often. The room also had a nice big mirror and an Almirah with hangers to stow away your belongings. The morning would start by sitting by the window facing the mountains and watch the fog covered mountains slowly wake up with the morning sun.

Bathroom: Bathroom as also very big and had a spacious bathing area with shower. The taps had hot/cold water available. The geyser were in perfect working condition. They had provided us a set of clean towels and soaps. The interior of the bathroom had some part of it furnished with wood. It looked really classy and was a rare thing in MTDC resorts.

Extra: A recreational room was present in the far end of the corridor with TT and carrom board. That room area was also quite big.

Safety: Safety per say I have always found MTDC resorts reliable. Here also in Panshet we had left all our belongings including laptop and my D90 in the room when we went for stroll and everything was in place when we came back. The resort is manned by 5-6 people who also ensure safety at night. Such forest areas always feels inviting to so for a nice evening walk. But when we ventured out of the building into the ground premises we found everything was pitch dark outside the gate. The staff at the resort gave us strange looks as we walked within the premises because apart form us no other occupants dared to come down after sun down. Strange , we would surely have loved a night walk. So after trying to get hold of Phone signal and calling home we went back to our rooms.

Room Service: The staff is very amicable and the room service was pretty prompt considering the fact that there were mostly 3 families in total at the resort that day.

Food: The food was very good which is a common practice at most of the MTDCs. The coffee was terrific and we over indulged on the caffeine. The bhajjis which are available in the evening were crispy and very very tasty. We had ordered a chicken preparation, some dal and rice for dinner. The chicken was delectably soft and very rich in flavours. The amount was also very good for two people. Price wise again very economical option. At breakfast I had bhurji pav and hubby had omelette and poha, everything tasted very good. Through we were a bit disappointed not to find any fish on the menu, that was something we were really looking forward to.

Sightseeing: If you have your own vehicle especially a bike then you can simply choose any of the roads in and around Panshet Dam or Varasgao Dam and start cruising along the hills. The scenery post monsoon is breathtaking...azure lakes, green rolling mountains, burst of orange Cosmos blooms along the valley, butterflies to give u company all along, green paddy fields, birds of the wild and patches of dense forest area everything will make you feel like you have arrived in a paradise of nature. The roads snake around the mountains and on way you can come across many small villages though hardly we saw any human habitation around. Nearby to the resort is the Neelkantheshwar temple which is also very scenic. Also there is one way nearby which leads to Lavasa. If you have time at hand then you may also try visiting Lavasa, the road again is very scenic. You can go for boating in the beautiful Panshet Lake or Varasgao Lake. There is a restaurant by the side of Panshet Lake which serves excellent local fare and do not forget to try the fish fry which is the fresh catch of the day from Panshet lake. Its finger licking good. Go for early morning walk towards the Varasgaon Dam for a rejuvenating start to the day.

Pros: Strategically placed, beautiful surroundings, great food, good room

Cons: The place becomes a bit eerie after sun down. There is pretty much nothing else to do than watch TV once its dark. Total silence all together with only sound of the insects of night birds. Those who do not like such eerie solitude may prefer not to stay back unless with a big group. The corridor barely had any lights so it was a bit scary navigating though it.

Spend a weekend in Panshet to just soak in the beauteous nature and unpolluted atmosphere.

Room Tip: Choose the left corner most room on first floor (forgot the number) or any entrance facing room, th...

Very close to dam and water sports. Located in a very calm and scenic area.
Resort also has table tennis and carom for chilling around. Staff is helpful. Food is not bad.
Rooms, big and spacious, you probably don't need these big rooms because you find TV very small then.
Bathrooms could be cleaner.
Overall I would have given 3 rating, but for its location, it couldn't be at a better place. Hence, 4.

Room Tip: Higher floors have a better view.

The Panshet resort is located very close to the water sports/activities area.

The rooms are big, linen ver clean, the staff are very friendly and accommodating. My daughter wanted to have bata wadas, though it was inconvienent, they obliged and made her day.

The restaurant area opens into a small garden. In the morning, you catch a lot of birds, squirrels.

Just felt very relaxed and happy at this resort.

They have finished building the swimming pool. So it will be more fun post December.

Room Tip: The AC rooms are bigger

We roam around to dig for better option than MTDC resort, but this was the only accommodation found reliable and convenient place, Near to dam.
It gives nice view from room (1st floor facing MTDC gate). Room was spacious and clean.
Heavy rain started by 6 and all lights gone. Receptionist said, once watchmen will come he will switch on generator. Finally in late light electricity came for some time. We couldn’t able to watch TV neither got hot water. Whole night it was thundering, lightening.
In passage / veranda there was no provision for candles. We have to depend on our mobile lights. It was a bit danger and scary. Looked like Bhoot Bangla.
Food was average, but quick. I ordered for rice and got full chilled "Cold" rice when inquired attendant said, it’s just prepared. But nicely he replaced it with better quality rice.
I can say average stay; positive point was nice scenery around. They have well maintained the lawn.

Room Tip: Carry your own dry snacks, food, fruits.

Visited MTDC Panshet in July 2013. MTDC Panshet is located at center of Panshet dam and Varasgaon dam. Resort is small having only 10-12 rooms. But all the rooms are spacious and big having 2 double bed, 1 single bed and sofa in each room. It cost us Rs.2300 per night. Resort has restaurant which servers tasty and fresh food; only you have to place your order in advance to avoid delays. As it was raining; electricity was is the issues; however MTDC guys were managing with backup generators. Overall the experience was nice and you can definitely visit along the family.

I had visited Panshet MTDC in the month of June 2013. Panshet is a good place for those who like nature and peace. There is nothing much to do except boating which is at a kilometre distance from MTDC. A small hotel serves tea and pakodas near lake. Now about the resort , it is a small resort with very big rooms. The rooms are decent and clean. Food served is like home made food. Over all it is above expectation from MTDC.
