We Stayed here for two days in Jan'13. This is one of the best MTDC property. Location is very near to Panshet and Varasgaon Lake/ Dam.
Very peaceful place located on hill top. Highly recommended to people who want to go away from hectic lifestyle.
All rooms were neat & clean. Some rooms are huge (especially room facing towards main gate on first floor)

Few things to note down before you reach there:-

Restaurant Facility at this resort is very basic don't expect too much. Variety of food depends on availability of vegetables in nearby village.
But Food served was descent but should be ordered well in advance.
There is no Room Service available for Lunch / Dinner. You need to have your Dinner by 10 P.M.

Nearby:-
There are not many places to go around.
One can do limited water sports in nearby lake.
However don't miss Golden Valley nearby 5-10 kms ahead of Boating point. ( Try to reach there before Sunrise) If you reach on time you would enjoy the moment.
In night one can enjoy clear skies with beautiful stars. ( This we don't get to see often in cities)

If you want to unwind/ just relax for 1 or 2 days this is the place for you.

Room Tip: Rooms on first floor facing towards main road are huge.

We stayed at MTDC Panshet for 2 days in February. It is located right between the Panshet and Varasgaon lakes/dams. The hotel itself if rather quaint and has an old world charm about it. I believe it has become operational only recently and has only 7 rooms currently. 1 and 2 on ground floor and 3-7 on first. There is no view of the lakes from any of the rooms. We stayed in room# 7 which we thought was pretty huge. It had two double beds, 1 single bed and a sofa. Can comfortably house 5 people we felt. The receptionist told us that he is giving us one of the smaller rooms since the bigger ones will be too big for just 2 people!! Can't imagine how big 'big' would be.

Incidentally we were the only folks staying there that weekend. It felt like staying in a huge mansion all by ourselves. The staff is typical decent marathi folks and keep themselves scarce unless you need them. The bathroom was updated and clean. Bedsheets etc were also clean. Room had a pretty good LCD tv to our surprise. There is a recreational room that has TT table (with bats and ball but dont take my word for it) and a carrom board. Inspite of everything, we felt it was a tad over-priced at 2K per night (food not included).

The property is huge but only a small portion is yet operational. We walked over the entire grounds and found to our amazement a huge swimming pool which is now in much disrepair. Work is still going on to get other rooms operational and habitable but that does not interfere with anyone staying in the main building.

The in-house restaurant is upto the mark. It looks more like olden days dining hall with long tables and wooden chairs. The menu does not offer a lot of choices which is how we like it. If you are expecting exotic spicy food you will be disappointed. the fare is pretty home-like.

Both Panshet and Varasgaon boating areas are a short walk away. The place is ideal for taking long walks as its surrounded by trees with very few vehicles plying. Panshet boating is suspended and waiting for a contract renewal. Varasgaon offers a spin of 2-3 mins in their motor boat for 100 bucks/person which we thought was worth it. The lakes are clean and unpolluted. Both boating barges have a local eatery. The one at Panshet we felt was definitely better. Offers lake facing bamboo sit out. Service is quick and food is good.

Overall a nice quiet getaway with good food and plenty of fresh mountain air.

Room Tip: Get a corner room.

we stayed at MTDC resort for just one day. There is not much to do around in Panshet. There are 2 dams Panshet and Warasgoan dam near by. Panshet dam was closed but boating (water scooter and speed boat only) was available at Warasgoan dam. The rooms were big, neat and clean. Only amenities available are table tennis (carry your own rackets and) and carrom. I think it is a nice place to stay especially during monsoon. For other seasons, you can go there and chill. Food is good but options are limited.

To start with Its a place to leisure and do nothing and not for the guys who are high on adrenaline. Its one of the better MTDC hotels (I have visited nearly all of them) in terms of hygiene and cleanliness as its still new and not so popular. It would take around 5 Hrs to travel (we had been in a tempo traveler as a family grp of 14) from Mumbai as it was a big vehicle. The rooms here are huge (not just big). Had it been a private hotel each room could have accommodated min 5-6 beds. The staff is scarce (just 3) hence don’t expect any sort of pampering or room service. There is a generator which does not work every time but as its cold you won’t feel it. (Don’t forget it's MTDC ... :)...)
The food needs to be ordered well in advance (2-3 hrs) from the room so that the staff can cook it in else it may never arrive as the room service attendants are the 1 who cook as well as serve you (Multi-tasking of the highest order). In the evening /early morning you can walk up to the dam and have a sweet time boating and admiring the nature or by just being away from the city life.
You may not get mobile network in the rooms even if you manage to get by chance, the signals would be very week (a blessing in disguise).
Highly recommended in case you want to have a welcome break from your routine stressful life over the week-end.

Room Tip: Rooms on the 1st floor are better.
