Great food in pretty ambience. Staff needs bit training on customer service. Not so expensive. Good variety.

If you are a lover of classic seafood then Mahesh Lunch Home is one place that should be on your list. Known for its Manglorean cuisine it has become synonymous with coastal delicacies for the past nine years and is going strong as it enters its tenth year in town. Located at
Ashoka Pavilion on Ambedkar Road in the heart of Pune the chain has expanded to five with restaurants at Parel, Juhu , Andheri West and Thane (apart from Pune).
The highlight of the restaurant is its coastal fare. One can experience the delight of live seafood that is brought to your table for you to choose the size. They display the catch of crabs and tiger prawns before serving you.
Established by S C Karkera in 1977. Mahesh Lunch Homes’s popularity has grown in leaps and bounds and the result – Mahesh Lunch Home has a loyal clientele who include the top shots of Pune.
The restaurant has witnessed many celebrity guest like Kapoor Family, Jaya Bachan, Suman Rangnathan, Sunil Gavaskar, Dilip Vengsarkar, Nana Patekar, Reema Lagoo, Tej Sapru and many more.
What is good at Mahesh Lunch Home? Well, quite everything and it is very difficult to choose from the list. I can guarantee that when you read the menu card, you’ll start salivating in auto. Don’t believe me, go try it yourself. You must try one of Mahesh Lunch Home’s signature
dishes the Sea Food Tandoori Platter. Have one, and you’ll ask for more.
Their Neer Dosa is a special kind of dosa from Karnataka, made with rice. Neer in Kannada means ‘Water’. Neer dosa is prepared by grinding soaked rice into a watery batter and then made into thin pancakes on hot griddle. The dosa comes out lacy thin, white and just melts in
your mouth.
For starters, Prawn Butter Pepper Garlic, squid Koliwada or the tandoori lobster tastes divine. Have it with the Soul Curry or Solkadi - a heavenly blend of spice and tang that consists of coconut milk, ginger, curry leaves and kokum which serves as a digestive. You can go
for beer as well to compliment your sea food; but as they say, ‘When in Rome, do as the Romans do’.

The tandoori crab is unbelievable and is the peak of gastronomical ecstasy. Other than the tandoor, the tangy prawn curry (with coconut base) goes well with both chapati and steamed rice. There is a variety of fried fish too. The vegetarians need not worry, as the menu offers
a wide range of veg dishes too. Paneer Makhanwala and Vegetable Kadai top my ranks since they are delicious and quite spicy to boot.
The essence of MLH does not lie only in its food but also in its ambience. The well-spaced tables give you enough privacy and the soft lighting and comfortable seating add to the ambience.
The service at MLH is efficient and friendly. Unlike most seafood/coastal restaurants, these people are committed to make sure you have a good time. An ideal way to do justice to an awesome meal at MLH is to order for Pomfret Ghassi accompanied either with steamed rice or with neer dosa or appam. You will not need anything else to go with this as this
combination in itself is perfect. The Pomfret is absolutely divine, its soft, succulent and melts in the mouth the moment you take one bite. What’s more, the curry does full justice to the fish by keeping the flavour of the fish intact. A hint of coconut in the gravy with all the masalas is what you would like to brighten up your day.
Commenting on the taste buds of the customers, Narayan Poojari, incharge of the Pune branch says that they keep in mind both the Indian and forgein customers. The Japanese customers preferred crab and prawns in lemon sauce as well as steamed crabs. The Europeans and the Americans love the flavors of the Manglorean spices and prefer the
authentic fare. But chilli pepper garlic and butter pepper garlic top the fare.
Mahesh Lunch also provides an option of free homes delivery within two kilometers and they have tied up with tastykhana.com and Food on wheels (foodonwheels.net).

Tried many places in search of authentic sea food at reasonable rate. This hunt took me to Mahesh Lunch Home. The food was great and I have no doubt in recommending this place to sea food lovers. Ambience of the hotel is also nice.
Parking space is not available and vehicles are parked on the road side.
Found to be overpriced.
