“The Homestay that Just Cant Go Wrong"”

I am a HUGE fan of Dala Rooster. Apparently, so is the rest of the world. For about a year now, every time I call Capt. Gokhale, I recieve a regret from him on my booking request. Doesn't surprise me. Who wouldn't love the Dala Rooster experience? Naturally, its booked solid for days in advance.

This particular visit, I stayed at another property for Saturday night and decided to extend my trip by one more day on a whim. I called Capt Gokhale to check if he had at opening at Rooster. He didnt, but Dala Mare - his new property did. He had spoken to me about it earlier and I was reluctant (I mean, how could anything be better than Rooster...Right?).

Wrong.

The first thing that hits you about Dala Mare, is the location. Its perched atop a hill and blessed with every bit of the lush breezy glory you could ask for in a hillstation. The structure has a wooden exterior giving it a ranch-like feeling. There are 6 spanking new rooms - all on the same floor, all of the same size, all commanding an excellent view.

Each room is fitted with an AC, attached bath and a flatscreen DTH enabled TV. All meals are served in the dining hall and you can request the caretakers to cook the food of your choice. Breakfast and tea/coffee are part of the package - other meals and extras are charged at a very nominal rate.

A special mention for Mrs. Jyoti who cooked all the lovely meals for us. She pro-actively called us before our arrival to check our meal preferences. She was ever attentive and a very gracious hostess. I really couldnt ask for a more comfortable stay.

We had our dog with us and he had a great time running around the open hillside chasing the breeze and hearing our chatter echoing through the silence.

At the end of my trip Capt Gokhale asked me the question I fully expected - "Which place do you prefer more? Dala Rooster or Mare?" And I said in a hearbeat - "Dala Mare".

I will be back soon, hungry for more. :)

“nice property - Pleasantly suprised”

I stayed on this property for couple of days from nov 30th to dec 2nd with few friends. I must say, we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of this bungalow. Most of the bungalows we stayed in the past in Panchgani / Mahabaleswar looked good on paper but were totally opposite when we arrived. Dirty bathroom, bedsheets, bath towels etc. ....Not with this one. There were six bedroom , one large common area and living room. The rooms were clean and spacious. Bathroom were in exceptional shape. Staff was friendly and provided good service and prepared good food. Each room had flat screen TVs with satellite HD!

The property is about a kilometer off road from Pune-Mahabaleshwar road. The road that leads to the property is semi-paved , gravel road. It is very peaceful in the day as well as night..which makes it a perfect gate away. The property is well maintained and hence there are hardly any mosquitoes around..one less thing to worry about. Short walk from the property there is an excellent view of valley with a dam and krishna river on sight. There is also a short hike to the village below if you feel adventurous.

Our only gripe was that the water is heated using solar. If you wish to take a shower in the morning, it is pretty much cold water. Other than that , we had no other complaints.

Couple of suggestions we can make
* Install a hybrid water heating system (solar + gyeser) for each room.
* the common area can be made a little better with better sofas and a larger flat screen TV.

** BONUS ** : There is Wi-fi in the common area. Although the a little more power router can be installed, the fact that the owner offers free Wi-fi is pretty commendable.

Thank you for posting your review. We indeed have a brand new solar electric hybrid system but there was some problem with the coil inside the tank which we found out upon investigation. Same has been replaced since and piping hot water is back in the system. The common area has a 55 inch Flat screen TV and we feel it is sufficient for the size of the living room.

Thank you again for staying with us and we look forward to seeing you back in our Dala Mare.

“Cosy hideaway from the bustle of the city”
Reviewed December 6, 2015 for a stay in October 2015

Dalamare is about 5 km from Panchgani and accessible by a dirt road off the Panchgani-Mahabaleshwar highway. First time visitors might not be able to find it unless the caretaker leads you in, so be sure to ask for him to meet you at the Mala food stall that's on the main road. We were very impressed by the layout of the resort and the privacy given to each room. The main entrance has a huge concrete canopy in front that is probably meant to keep out the rain and sun, but it also blocks the grand view of the valley from the reception and dining area. The rooms were well appointed and had all the latest conveniences, with clean toilets and hot water. Each room has a great view and the balcony is an ideal place to relax. A healthy breakfast is part of the room price and the other meals are cooked on demand. There are a lot of options to go for walks around the area, and for more interesting sightseeing you could easily drive to Mahabaleshwar. We had an enjoyable stay there and enjoyed the hospitality of the courteous and efficient staff. Being just two hours drive from there, we would love to visit again.

Peaceful stay, homely atmosphere and good quality Maharashtrian home-made food
We stayed twice at "Dala Mare" and both the times, it was a fabulous experience. It’s truly a home away from home. The bungalow consists of 6 rooms with a common dining area and a common living room. There are two more dining arrangements in either side of the bungalow in case guests want to have their privacy. The bungalow and the surroundings are clean and well maintained. The rooms, bathrooms, adjacent balconies are well lit. Bed linen and towels are clean. Kitchen, electronic gadgets used in kitchen, crockery and cutlery are spick and span. Cell phones have no problem on getting a range and the Television, A/C and Hot water arrangements are perfectly functional. Well trained care taker members Jyoti and Ruturaj Raut, Laxman and Ujwala Ranjane provide exceptionally good service with a brimming enthusiasm with their contagious smile to the guests. They are very accommodative on the choice of food and willing to make small changes in their recipes to suit it to our pallet. Calling us prior to our visit to know our meal preferences is certainly worth appreciating. BBQ arrangement by them on the second night of stay calls for a wow. Breakfast, snacks and vegetarian and non-vegetarian meals are tasty.
Dala Mare is so beautifully planned, that from the room allocated to you, you do not feel disturbed by anyone else, whether you are single, a couple or a group of friends and colleagues.
If one considers Dala Mare, as our own home and is willing to relish steaming hot and freshly made Maharashtrian homely food, one can think of visiting Dala Mare again and again. It’s certainly a place to unwind and relax from the urban crowd and enjoy a holiday peacefully. Tariff and Food charges are reasonable and value for money.
Since Dala Mare is set in a quiet locale and is a bit away from the main town, it is a must to have your own transportation. What one must not expect is variety of cuisine such as Chinese, Punjabi or Continental menu as the care takers are well trained in preparing Maharashtrian food.
From enquiry stage until the end of our visit, our experience was amazing! Capt. Vikas Gokhale and his team deserve a big thank you from us.
We would like to visit Dala Mare again and again.
