“Lovely but windy”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 12, 2013

Nice clean beach, but you did get sand blasted by the wind. Very Indian at one end, so cover up, more touristy at the other end.

“Worth a visit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 7, 2013

Beautiful beach, only thing I was disappointed about were there weren't any sunbeds of umbrellas which made it impossible to sunbath as it was far to hot without at least an umbrella for shade. However there are plenty of places to sit ad have a drink whilst enjoying the view.

Lots of international people and met many from my country. Enjoyed it very much.

Good water sports too.

“Few of the best beaches of India”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 1, 2013

What do you expect when you go to a beach?
1. Clean shore - Yes
Near to white sand with not much plastic pollution and leftovers. Cleanly maintained
2. Mildly Populated and not over crowded - Yes
For those who have been to Calngute in Goa & Juhu in Mumbai, you will find this heaven. Sparsely populated tourists who keep to themselves and are not noisy.
3. Clean Waters - Yes
Blue waters that hit the shore. Clean & Transparent waves. For Indian standards, this could be one of the cleanest yet commercially acclaimed beach
4. Bikinis & Babes - Oh! Yes
Many westerners flock here for a relaxed outing. Sun bathing through the day. You find them in good population.
5. Nice Sunset - Very much.
The cliff next to the beach and the beautiful sunset is a moment to click.
6. Good Beach Shacks/restaurants - This is Heaven!
Climb up the stairs over to the cliff and you will find aplenty options to dine. They are much cleaner and more friendly staff than Goan culprits. Choose between Abba, Clafouti, Kerala Cafe - They are the top picks.
7. Water Sports - No.
I am happy this way that the water sport business is not ruining this beach.

“Varkala interlude”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 30, 2013

We arrived by train and tuktuk to stay at the Sea Pearl. We walked the beach and up to the clifftop area where overseas tourists seem to hang out. We were there at season's close but the place looked neat, clean and tidy. We ate at several restaurants - at one I had my worst meal in India. It wasn't bad..I've just had better coconut rice elsewhere. I was amused to see Europeans eating boiled eggs and toast; many restaurants seemed to offer European food so we hunted out places where Indian tourists were eating. Religious ceremonies were happening on the beach and at night I saw locals feeding the many dogs that inhabit the beach. By day the beach was littered by European bodies and at night the dogs slept on the warm sand....lol. Lots of shops and beautiful coloured cliffs where occasionally I saw a mongoose dash for cover. Worth a visit but Australians won't be going for the surf.
