a great experience .... varkala beach is beautiful and pristine ..... though we were there in the low season yet we had a great time and enjoyed beautiful views from the adjacent cliff. The shacks on the cliff are a 'must visit'. Enjoyed a great sunset too .... will definitely visit again ..!!!

“Great, but 86 steps down & back up”
Reviewed January 31, 2013

Once down on the beach the place ticks all the right boxes.
goog sand, very wide & you can walk unhindered for miles & miles or until you have had enough.
You can often see Dolphins & Sea Eagles & Herens.
The cost of a sun umbrella is only Rs 150 or about £1.50, same price for a sun chair, each.
There is no food available except fresh fruit from ladies that will cut & peel a pineapple for you, but its ok to leave your belongings unattended & go for lunch going up the 86 steep steps.
Its also free to stay all day on the beach.
The sea is much calmer in the mornings to go swimming in although it can be a little tricky getting in & out as the incoming waves can catch you out as they are quite strong but no real problem.
All in all its a great day out.

“Not worth missing by any chance”
Reviewed January 29, 2013

In one word its just "awesome", the view from the clifftop and from the hundreds of restaurants is breathtaking. You can spend days here. It's 90% foreigners and about 10% Indian tourists, one can hardly spot locals here. Extremely clean beach, nice warm water (I went in Jan) lots of shopping and dining options around, makes it one of India's best beaches - can definitely give Goa a run for its money

“Beach”
Reviewed January 29, 2013

Great beach, if you want sunbeds or umbrella they are R 150 each and they take them away at 5pm whether you are still using them or not! Fishermen pull up next to you and off load their catch and the young Lads walk up and down gawping at bikini clad girls. The Sea is warm but beware the current on days is dangerous. There is a life guard......a bloke with a whistle

“what a beach!!!”
Reviewed January 29, 2013

The beach is white sand, clean and tropical. The sea is very pleasant to swim in, with beautiful waves for (body)surfing. Near the beach wonderful and cheap juice joints an restaurants, with direct seaview. This place is fantastic and I hope that mass tourism will not ruin it.
