“A wonderful place at the sea”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 16, 2012

In September 2012 on a round-trip through Kerala we stayed for two days in Palm Tree Heritage. It is a very nice place. If you just step out your room, it is only 50 meters to the ocean!

Only a few steps along the beach you can have delicious and cheap food while listening to the rough sea; actually it is a bit too rough for swimming inSeptember, but very nice to cool down a little bit. If you take fish for lunch, you can be sure it is really fresh since you can see the fisher boats returning in the early morning directly to “your” beach (and don’t think of noisy motor boats, in fact just three (tree) trunks bound together).

We were very satisfied with everything. Our room was very clean and tidy. It had a separate bathroom and a small veranda. We decided spontaneously to go for elephant riding and asked whether this would be possible somewhere nearby. Just one hour later everything was organized. It was wonderful and, therefore, we strongly recommend staying there.

We stayed two nights in a superior suite at the Palm Tree Heritage and wish it had been longer. The position, right on an uncrowded beach, is fabulous. Our room was spacious, comfortable and spotlessly clean. There is a really great restaurant serving the freshest fish, and the staff couldn't be better - so happy, friendly and helpful. It is a very laid back place, where you can really relax - just what we needed after three weeks travelling in India. If you like modern, upmarket chain hotels this is not for you. For us, this was so much better, genuinely caring staff, beautiful surrounds and somewhere that almost feels like home ( if only you could be that lucky)!

After three weeks of being on the road traveling India, this was just the place needed to relax and revive on the beach.

Clean/spotless hot water a/c rooms with sea views, friendly service and exceptional food both during the day and night (try Barracuda kerelean style). Annex in particular set to a very high standard with comfortable beds pillows and linen. No mosquito trouble either!

Location? Excellent. Clean little free and quiet beach away from the touristic hustle and crowded Verkala (10 mins max walk).

Most importantly, the Annex represented great value for a little bit of luxury in India!

We had selected this little paradise for our honeymoon trip based upon tripadvisor guest review, and we are fully satisfied. The 9 hour long exhaustive journey vanished as soon as we entered Plam Tree. It seemed that so many smiling faces were waiting to welcome us with the pleasant cheering of sea. Hats off to Mr. Babu. Mr. Gopal and their team. Each guest is special to them. All the staff, from reception to restaurant, are so friendly that you will never felt that you are in a new place.
One can spend hours after hour looking at the sea with delicious sea food in the plate in front. The candle light dinner, right on the beach, adds a different taste to all food.
The best part of Plam Tree is that they kept the resort premises as natural as possible. We spent three nights there and we felt we could have spent our entire trip in Plam Tree Resort at Varakal. Its really amazing.

Room Tip: Though all the rooms are sea view, at least with sea view balcony/veranda, one corner room is having...

We stayed in November 2012 for 4 nights.

If you want an amazing location, truly friendly service, lovely decor, clean rooms & a chance to just kick back & enjoy the surroundings then definitely do come here. Don't come here if you're happiest at a chain hotel with all mod cons but zero character & charisma. This place delivers a very good level of service in a simple, understated way that is ideal for the location.

For once, the reality did live up to the photos & we felt relaxed as soon as we got there; after a couple of weeks of visiting the North of India, this is just what we needed! Babu & the team are great & you get the impression that everyone wants to work together to make sure things run as smoothly as possible. Everyone was friendly without being intrusive & there was genuine interest as to whether we were happy with the room, the food etc. If you wanted information about other things to do, Babu & co have a great deal of knowledge & contacts.

Odayam beach itself was great too; about 15 minutes away from Varkala strip & beach, it's quiet & hassle-free. We ate at Palm Tree every night. Eating outside by candlelight with the sand in your toes was always a great way to finish the day. We found the food to be really good and reasonably priced & we had great recommendations from the staff!

Overall, we would definitely recommend Palm Tree Heritage. Keep up the excellent work Babu & team. Thanks for a great break, Russ & Tina.

Arrived to a warm welcome from Babu and immediately loved the place.
Lovely spacious room and bathroom with veranda overlooking the beach. Uncrowded and peaceful beach. Great to watch the fishermen in the mornings hauling in their nets.
The staff couldn't have been friendlier or more attentive.
This is where to come for pure relaxation in a idyllic location. Highly recommended.

We stayed at Palm Tree Heritage in September for 11 days with our two children, aged 2 and 1. The location is fantastic, a short walk to Varkala clifftop shops and restaurants one direction, and a succession of fishing beaches and tiny holiday resorts the other along a beautiful clifftop path, until you get to Edava beach half an hour's walk away with its colourful fishing boats and miles of deserted golden sand. The beach right outside your window is where fishermen land fish and fix their nets, all spectacular and fascinating to watch - and the source of fantastic fresh fish. The rooms are very big, very clean, and very well-looked after. Each one has a big shady porch to relax in (the building is done in a traditional Keralan style with lots of slatted wood, which is cool). The food is fantastic, and very good value. The restaurant will cook what you and your children like - but the fresh fish was best of all, with shark, prawns, snapper and lots of other things.

The best thing about Palm Tree Heritage though is the service, and the attitude of Babu, Bobby and the rest of their team. We were really looked after. The staff are kind, attentive and relaxed. No-one's in your face, but everything you can imagine taken care of. When our baby had a fever, Babu (the owner) took us to the local hospital and waited around for us. Babu organises trips and local transport really well.

Bear in mind, in the monsoon, there is only a very small beach in front (and Varkala's main beach shrinks too). It was perfect for us, with space for our kids to paddle; but you'll have to walk a little bit if you want to spend hours every day sunbathing.

All in all, Palm Tree Heritage is a wonderful place - one of the very best places we've stayed. Two months on, our (now) 3 year old keeps asking when we can go back. She loved it, we loved it, and we'll return, no doubt.
