I booked heritage cottage for two nights......It is too close to sea/beach..biggest attraction is its restaurant ( too close to sea), I enjoyed my breakfast there !!!!!
Room was clean... I didn't expect 5* facility here.. because it is budget resort, but I enjoyed because I don't need to much service....
Resort's manager is also a good and helpful guy........
About 50 meters towards right side of the resort, there is very beautiful and small beach.. I called it as "my personal beach" ... only 5/6 person at a time !!!! :) :) :) ......

We had booked this resort over the phone and the resort had not taken any advance for it. We were quite skeptical about whether we will be allocated the correct room. But on reaching there we did not face any problem while checking in.
The resort is situated just beside the black beach on the cliff. Being the last resort on the cliff it far from the hassle bustle of the crowd. The rooms are cozy and comfortable and the staffs are very friendly.
The view of the resort is simply fantastic. The restaurant attached to the resort is managed by a guy from Shiliguri. The restaurant is situated by the sea side and you can watch the waves lashing on the shore as you sit by having your meal. Only drawback of the place is that the restaurant food is not very good. In fact you can try it out once or twice but the taste is same for any thing you order. Quality and hygiene wise the restaurant has no problem.

Room Tip: Try choosing a sea view cottage. You can sit on the portico watching the sea.

In typical India fashion the staff here were so hospitable and took much pride in their ability to meet our desires. The rooms were quaint and quiet, AC was an option (which was nice to have available) and everyone went out of their way to make sure our stay was a pleasant one.

We booked the WoodHouse for 4 nights, via email with Anoop (the manager I think). I was offered 2 different types of rooms & quoted the rate for each. Interestingly, he didn't offer me the cheapest room (as per their website) and the place didn't seem particularly busy when we arrived.
I decided to book the cheaper of the two he offered me (deluxe double with a/c)

When we arrived, there was no-one on Reception and the guy who was looking after things (a maintenance guy perhaps) seemed completely surprised to see us. A quick call to someone, checked our name, checked our name again, and we were finally shown to our room.
I didn't think the room we were given was the one I had booked but thought they had maybe given us a complementary upgrade. No such luck. When the guy came back we asked which room we had been given & were told that this was a Cottage which cost more than the Deluxe room (the same rates quoted by email) and so we asked to move to the room we had booked.

The new room was slightly bigger than the cottage, with a small balcony and a really small, old-fashioned bathroom. The sheets and the towels were badly stained & by then we were feeling less than happy with the whole experience.

Also, the wi-fi wasn't working & when we asked about it we were told that "it sometimes works & it sometimes doesn't".

After a snack, we took a walk along the cliff & found a room in a MUCH nicer guest house which was only slightly more expensive.

We returned to the WoodHouse and informed the guy that we would be leaving the next morning.

When we checked out, a manager had returned (not Anoop apparently) & he was quizzing my husband as to why we were leaving. As part of this discussion he miraculously reduced the room rates of both rooms we had been given by 500 rupees per night completely contradicting the email and the info provided by his colleague the previous day .... Perhaps in an attempt to change our minds.

When asked about the wi-fi he explained that he had turned it off when he left the previous day (?) but he could turn it on if we wanted. (this was 10.30 the next morning & it still wasn't on)

One positive point was the restaurant where we ate 3 times, including breakfast. It has a lovely location overlooking the beach and we enjoyed all the food we had there. Also, the guy that runs it is really friendly & helpful.
One slight hitch was with the 'complementary breakfast'. We asked one of the waiters which breakfast we could have & we were told we could have any. When we came to leave however we were advised that only the standard breakfast was included and we had to pay extra for our choice. It wasn't a big deal but slightly annoying as we had asked the question up front...

At best, this place is badly managed and the rooms in need of attention.

My friends and me went to Varkala in March, exactly in WoodHouse Beach Resort. Amazing place to visit and enjoy. In front of the beach, beautiful views and you be able to enjoy the quiet holiday. The staff is friendly and lovely. The cooker is increible, you be able to savor delicatessen food and fresh food. The best speciality is the fish. In my opinion I advise you to go, I'm sure that you going out with good flavour in your mouth.
