We came across Kaiya House after looking on TripAdvisor and being impressed by the other reviews. It absolutely didn't disappoint! We were greeted with an ice cold tea and shown to the English Room - four poster bed, walls decorated with royalty. The house is full of beautiful items collected from around the world and is spotlessly clean. Breakfast was delicious, good options and it was nice to have something less spicy for a change. Debra was a wonderful host, she gave us a tour of the North Cliff upon our arrival, and her husband Suraj was always happy to help. It is perfectly walkable from North Cliff and I would recommended it to everyone staying in Varkala! Thank you Debra and Suraj, from Erin and James (London, UK)

Kaiya house is easily the best place we stayed during a 3 month tour of India and we could not recommend it more. We went for one week and ended up staying two.

Ideally located in a relatively peaceful spot a few minutes walk from the busy North Cliff, Kaiya House mixes boutique hotel chic with the warm welcome and feel of an upmarket guest house. The rooms are very nicely done with comfortable beds and luxury linen and it goes without saying that everything is spotlessly clean. There's also a decent TV room, WiFi in the communal areas and you'll be offered more free TV and Coffee than you can possibly drink.

Debra the owner/host really can't do enough for you and in addition to the invaluable 'walkabout' tour of the town she offers when you arrive, her links with the local community mean that if you're interested in the cultural stuff that the area has to offer, you'll have the inside track on your fellow tourists.

I stayed with the amazing, wonderful Debra for a week in late febuary/early march and what a wonderful stay it was!
The best of my six week southern indian trip without a shadow of a doubt.
It was only on getting to Kaiya House that I experienced real chilled joy and Indian magic.
Dera and the Aunties could not have done more to make me feel welcome amd make sure I had the best time whilst with them.
The beautiful and chic themed rooms are all decorated to the highest standard.
Breakfasts are yummy with a great choice.
I spent many hours making art in the day,and staring at the stars on the roof at night.
As i write this I'm dreaming of my next visit
If you are visiting Varkala do not eeven think about staying anywhere else!!!!

Room Tip: AMAZING THEMED ROOMS....SPOTLESS...CHIC

We were due to stay at Kaiya house for 3 nights, though enjoyed Varkala and being hosted so well by Debra and her family that we stayed a further 3 nights.
By far the best place that we have stayed during our 3 weeks in India.

A wonderful Guesthouse with stunning interior, very artistic, a collection of pieces from all around the world, giving a great cultural feel though with the sense of privacy, space and above all cleanliness.
The various themed rooms and four poster beds were wonderful and made for a real home from home along with the exceptional hosting, care and consideration that we received.

Debra is very thoughtful and happy to share her local knowlegde, tips and advice, we were lucky enough to given a guided tour by her around the area. Quite an adventure that we wont forget! Walking by the Temple, along the Clifftop and down the steps to the beautiful beach where we admired the beauty and force of nature. The sea can be pretty strong with the waves coming up form nowhere, not somewhere you can freely take a long swim, the beach patrollers will remind you with their whistle blowing! Take caution in the Sea.

We enjoyed endless amounts of tea, coffee and eco friendly water and lovely breakfasts with fresh fruit grown in the garden from the hand of Baba Chi.
Debra allowed us to use the kitchen as we liked, with some advance warning, so we payed a visit to the hectic and amusing local fish market. We cooked up our fresh purchases in the very clean kitchen which was a treat for someone who loves and missed the freedom of being able to cook during our travels.
Compementary Wifi also available.

Varkala is lovely, much more chilled out than the north not so much hussel, bussel, noise and smells. Lovely atmosphere and dramatic clifftop views of the sea, wonderful food also.

Thank you so much to Debra and her family for a lovely stay, would certainly return and shall be recommending to all of my friends and family who should venture this way.

We stayed with Debra for 5 nights as part of our 3 week tour of South India and it turned out to be the best accommodation we came across. We couldn't have asked for more from Debra and her husband's Aunty. I would second all the compliments written by the other guests. The room was exceptionally clean and bug free, we were offered iced tea on arrival, as much tea and coffee as we could drink daily, filtered water to take out with us during the day and THE most amazing breakfasts. We were able to request exactly what we wanted and could choose the time it was served, we ate a different Keralan breakfast each day and were never disappointed. Varkala is a lovely relaxed place to stay, it real felt like a holiday and Kaiya House just makes it extra special. A huge thanks once again to Debra and Babaji.

We stayed here for only one night after moving on from a hotel near Kollam which was good but too quiet. We so wished we had the opportunity to stay longer with Debra and in Varkala as we loved it - unfortunately we had an early flight the next day. Kaiya House was just perfect and so cheap! Debra was more than caring and it was great to meet her and we hope she comes to our b&b in France at some point! Highly recommended for that personal touch, excellent facilities (cold showers only which are refreshing when it's hot!) and super breakfast, even that early!!

My friend and I stayed at Kaiya House the first week of our holiday to Kerala. We'd originally booked it for one night after reading the good reviews on tripadvisor and after having such a lovely first night decided to stay for 6 nights. Debra the owner is a really great host. When we first arrived she really helped us settle in by taking us on a tour around the town and the touristy cliffs. She took us to some really sweet (and cheap) places in the town, there was cafe over looking the square watering hole in the town which we definitely wouldn't have stumbled across. She also took us to see an elephant! The rooms in the house are great, ours had a four poster bed. There was no air con but we didn't feel like we needed it that much. I think there was one room with ac that was available though. The little touches in the house probably made it extra special for us. We were able to choose any breakfast we wanted, she made it clear that she would go shopping and get us whatever we wanted. There was also free tea (hot and cold) whenever we wanted it. She also has a water purifier and gives you bottles of water to take to the beach and she let us use her computer and internet. The rooms are cleaned daily too. This was all included in the price so we felt really taken care of.

Something else that really mattered to us was the fact that she has magnetic mosquito nets on all the windows so there were literally no bugs at all in the house. This means you don't have to use an ugly mosquito net over your bed which is nice too.

After our first week there we moved to another place on the north cliff in Varkala just to have a change of pace. We really wished we hadn't gone!! There were lots of bugs in the new place, the rooms weren't cleaned ever and the towels weren't replaced. We also met a lot of people and saw their places, Kaiya house was definitely the nicest by far.

Kaiya house just has a different standard of cleanliness and Debra is really concerned with making your stay as nice as it can possibly be.

My advice is check it out, it's really worth it.
