Visited the temple on a crowded day. Male devotees are allowed and not as claimed in the social media these days; only that on a particular day in the month of February/March(Malayalam month of Kumbham), a local ritual known as 'Attukal Pongala' can be performed only by women. The temple is divine and the Bhagavathy Amman diety is powerful. a place worth visiting if one is in Thiruvananthapuram.

it's among the second most famous temple of THIRUVANANTHAPURAM after Padmanabhan Temple and has established some Guinness book records for largest number of candles lit at a particular day. Well managed, good parking facilities and other facilities for visitors.

I frequent this temple whenever I am in Thiruvananthapuram. It's mythology and the spirit of womanhood at the centre of it are close to the heart of the residents of the city. 'Attukal Pongala' which is a big festival associated with this temple happens sometime around Feb-Mar and has snatched a position in World records for the event bringing maximum number of women devotees. Probably the best feature of the temple on any normal day is the atmosphere it creates and the calmness that brings to mind.

It is an important temple in Thiruvananthapuram. It is about four km from the city centre. It is famous for the pongala festival. It is attended only by women and it is the largest gathering of women for a specific purpose. It is a local holiday during the festival day.

Attukal Bhagavathy Temple is one of the most prominent temples in Trivandrum. It appears in the Guinness Book of World records for holding the largest congregation of women devotees on Attukal Pongala day (this festival is held every year).
This congregation is not restricted to Hindu women, women belonging to all faiths come all over the world to Trivandrum days before the Pongala festival. It certainly is a sight to behold.
You may refer to the Pongala festival on Wikipedia for more details.
Friday is the day when people throng to the temple to seek the presiding deity's blessings. Presiding deity is goddess Bhadrakali.
As is with Hindu temples, the temple opens by 5AM and closes by 11AM and opens in the evening by 5 PM and closes by 8 PM. If you are visiting for the first time do make it a point to enquire at Kerala Tourism Department outlet that are all over the city or make enquiries at your hotel.
Although the approach roads to the temple are narrow, the temple has ample parking space, lots of space where one can rest. This temple can also boast of having an outlet of Indian Coffee House, one of the cleanest eateries that one can find. I have not had the opportunity to eat at this restaurant, hence, I refrain from commenting on the quality of food, ambiance, service and so on.
Those who are initiated to the world of dance and music make it a point to perform at this temple for the first time, i.e., this would be their first performance and seek the blessings of the goddess, known as "arangetram".
Regular classical music and dance performances are held on a regular basis.
There are lots of offerings that one can offer to the goddess to seek her blessings, these are clearly mentioned at the temple premises and near vazhipad (offerings) counters.
Praying here gives a spiritual solace and your worries just dissipate, the temple just radiates positive energy.
If you plan to visit temples in and around Trivandrum, this one must not be missed at any cost, besides, this temple is just 2 to 3 Kms from Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple (the richest temple in the world).
