Agastyamala peak is the highest point in the Nilgiri mountains of Kerala. It is best viewed from Ponmudi, about 3hrs from Trivandrum. It is a peaceful place and has fewer tourists as compared to Munnar or Wayanad. Trekking in this area is a peaceful experience and is recommendable!

If you want to spend 3 days away from all hustles of modern life and be in touch with nature, take a permission from Forest department office at P.T.P. Nagar, Thiruvananthapuram to visit Agasthya mala. You have to pay a fee to get permission. You have to travel upto Bonakkad estate. There is a Kerala State Transport bus which starts from Trivandrum to Bonakkad, which leaves by 5.30 am. Distance from Trivandrum is around 50 km. You have to report at the forest department office at Bonacaud before 9 am they will provide you guides.
You have walk one day through to reach the base station in valley near Agasthya mala by evening. On the way you can enjoy the beauty of the forest. There are dozens of streams and half a dozen waterfalls on the way to the base camp, where you can take a refreshing bath. Be aware of the surroundings and be careful not to be taken by surprise by the elephants. The base camp is surrounded by trenches to protect you from wild animals in the night. Agstyamala is a pilgrimage spot also. In the season starting from November, you will be served with food in the base camp is you pay.
Next day morning you can start climbing the peak of Agasthya Mala. The rocky peak is full of rare and beautiful medicinal plants. The scenic beauty of Agasthya Mala will definitely a feast for your eyes. On the top of the peak, most of the time there will be strong wind and the view of clouds passing near you is enchanting.
Descend by evening and you can take rest in the base camp in the second night. Next day again walk back through the same route to reach Bonacaud. Return journey will take less time, as you are walking down the hills.
You will remember this trip ever in your life

Agasthya malai is near the southern end of western ghats. It is a trekking destination moderately tough to reach. It is situated in the dense forests of the western ghats and close to the Peppara dam reservoir. Trekking is a 3 day program and need to take permission paying a fee from the forest department. The destination is also considered as a pilgrimage destination. trekking is allowed through a usual route and you will be provided with guides. First day you have to walk and reach the base camp at the bottom of the Agasthyamalai. You can sleep at the base camp and next day morning you can start climbing the peak. return by the evening. Return trip can be made on the third day morning. Chances to see the elephants and other wild animals depend on the season and time of your travel. There are a number of waterfalls and picturesque spots on the way.
