The waters here are not as badly exploited as the ones in Kumarakom and Alleppey. Once you get here, you get the feeling that you are looking at some very virgin territory. You can literally see mirror-like reflections of the palm trees in the waters and there is an intricate network of canals and waterways that the boats will take you through. The downside is the cost. But that, I guess, is the same across Kerala

This is very fantastic Island in Kerala near Tamilnadu state border.
It has sea on one side and a lake on other side.
The beach is called Gold Sand Beach. This is the most beautiful beach I have ever visited. Very high tides. Cant go too far inside as it is steep. But very attractive place.
Island in full of coconut, Jungle Mango(poisonous) and Mangroves trees.
There are boat clubs to hire boats to visit the Island and the beach. Dont take small trip. You would love to spend more time on Gold Sand Beach. There are floating cottages and floating restaurants available on the Island. You can plan for stay there.
Definitely a must visit place in Kerala trip.

The highlight of my Trivandrum trip. Here, the backwaters of Neyyar River join the Laccadive Sea with golden yellow sands with an organish hue. The boat ride through the narrow canal with mangrove forests around and people in the villages throughout were doing their morning chores like bathing, etc., was a beautiful sight. As we go past coconut/mango tree-dotted narrow canal, we are overwhelmed by the sight of the backwater expanding in a huge way. Finally, when we reach the sea, the boat is stopped and you can alight from the boat and walk on the banks which is nothing but the sand dunes of the Laccadive Sea, which had a teal color to it. It was an absolute color riot. The blue Neyyar backwater with greenish/yellowish/orangish vegetation around with the golden yellow/orangish sand dunes and the teal sea mixing with the sand to give an exhilarating experience. Great experience. Lucky people can have some exotic bird sightings as well.
