SP Grand Days
Reviewed March 16, 2013

I have a business trip to trivanduram and was staying in SP Grand Days for 2 days. The hospitality was great. I had trouble with the Wi-Fi the staff immediately help me with a LAN cable. The next day morning the TV had some connection problem, I was thinking to call the helpdesk but they called me instead to check my comfort in the room. The TV problem was immediately sorted. The rooms are spacious but the Bed was a little hard and I had problems sleeping. The room service was made within 5 min. Take the rooms facing the road side to you can have a good view and take the upper floors. The had a buffet restaurant on the 2nd floor and an Al-Carte at the roof top, both served good kerala and continental style food. I would prefer to stay here even the next time i visit Trivanduram.

Room Tip: take the road facing and rooms on the topper floors this will give you great view of the city

Rooms at this 5 year old business hotel were well equipped and very clean. Staff were very accommodating. The response to my request for a WiFi password was a man coming to our room with a cable to link my laptop computer directly to a wall outlet.

An excellent buffet breakfast was included in the price. We also enjoyed the lunchtime buffet (many very good dishes to choose from), at a cost of 495 rupees each. We also discovered a second restaurant on the top floor of the hotel with great night time views.,

After shopping, e.g. large department stores like Pothys and Jayalakschmi, visiting the Trivandrum zoo, the Napier Museum as well as a nearby art gallery, we really enjoyed the clean swimming pool on the 4th floor of the hotel,

I recently stayed at this hotel during my honeymoon. My stay was for 3 days and 3 nights. I was impressed with the facilities and the staff right from the beginning. Rooms are very clean, staff is very courteous. Location is also good as it is just a km away from Trivandrum railway station (though we had come here by flight, we went to kanyakumari by train). The only thing is the food. Its good but its very costly. The breakfast which is complimentary is really very very good. You get so many options to choose from. The dinner, if you opt for ala-carte, is at roof top. Wonderful ambiance. The check-in check-out process was also smooth. I would prefer to stay at this hotel, have complimentary breakfast but then have lunch n dinner outside.

Pros: Location, Room quality, Courteous staff, ambiance
Cons: Costly food including the mini-bar.

Room Tip: Don't know if it makes any difference, as all windows are closed. My room was on 10th floor but...

I recently had a stay at the SP grand Days hotel. The hotel is located 10 minutes away from the Trivandrum railway station and Bus Stand. It is a bit surprising that many autorickshaw drivers are not aware of this hotel, and I had to get one chap to speak directly to the hotel staff through my mobile for him to get the location.
First impressions of the hotel were good. I had booked the hotel online, and at a reasonable rate. The hotel lobby is nicely done up, and the reception staff are nice and informative.
I was given a room on the 10th floor (1005), and given a keycard. I then proceeded to my room.
The first impression of the room was strictly ok. It looked pretty much like a standard executive room- nothing that would commit it to one's memory, nor proclaim it distinctive.
The furnishing was average- the bed was made up nicely, and the walls were bright, but the bedside furniture and the wardrobe were old and not upto the mark for a business class hotel.
The toilet and tub were clean, and there were the usual soaps assortment kept on the slab- no toothbrushes though!. There was also no bathrobe provided- which would have been a nice touch. The paint on the ceiling was peeling off (see the photos), and that is something maintenance guys need to check every day. You simply cannot expect guests to be satisfied and give a good rating if there are lapses like these.
The Television was an LCD TV, with a cisco set top box- the channels were mostly in the local language and via cable. I think some premium english HD channels need to be offered when they are charging a pretty buck for the rooms.
There is complimentary bottle of water- and the hotel lets you know this with a tag on the bottle. The basket nearby with an assortment of nuts and chocolates is chargeable. The wardrobe opens up to reveal an electronic safe.
I called up the lobby to get information about WiFi, and the password they provided didn't work. Further inquiries did not yield satisfactory results. The Wifi Range on the 10th floor was not great.
I took a look at the Room service menu, and was surprised to see the food items being quite overpriced- I think almost at a 100% premium. I am quite sure the hotel would argue it out as being a price for quality food, but being a foodie/ traveler myself- I would rate the food as being 7/10, and does not justify a high pricing- at least for the local dishes.
The checkout procedure was painless, At the lobby I encountered an irate customer who was arguing about the keycard not working for his rooms- two times after changing rooms apparently. The next hurdle I faced was in getting suitable transport to the railway station- even though the hotel staff had assured me there would be lot of rickshaws available, I had to wait 20 minutes before something came my way.

In a nutshell- i would say that SP Grand days is trying to be a good business hotel, but it still has a very long way to go before it can succeed. The rooms need to be maintained well, new furniture installed, more professional room service, and reasonably priced food. But given the scarcity of hotels in the same class in Trivandrum, it will slowly sail the seas.

Room Tip: Do ask for free wifi at the lobby. If the food continues to be this expensive- do visit the local ho...

The hotel rooms are comfortable and large. there is no free wi-fi. All amenities are really expensive. Food is good , but comes highly priced.
The breakfast is really good and the staff are every efficient and really takes care of you.
Check in and check out is a lengthy process.
Hotel is situated in a good location. On sundays, because there are churches next door your sleep may be affected.
Gym has some really good treadmills and other machines. But you may have to fend for yourself here, since trainer is not available at all times.

The rooms are very clean and comfortable. The buffet breakfast was good with enough choices. I had dinner at the roof top restaurant which has excellent ambience. These are the good things I noticed.

The negatives are : The parking spaces are limited in the front of the hotel. The checking process was good, but the lady at the check out was bit rude. The roof top restaurant is little expensive. Also the guy served our table was `very unprofessional. He wanted to take order for main course in a hurry and kept asking for it repeatedly. When we told that main course will be ordered later, he avoided us completely. We had to wait long for refill drinks and snacks.

Swimming pool is dirty and not in use. Gym was also closed.

This hotel is OK for a day's stay. The cost is on high side especially when with the pool is not usable.

Room Tip: Ask for Non Smoking Rooms.

I had the opportunity to stay on business trips at similar other properties at Trivandrum. I must say while the property stands out better overall, it has distinct opportunities to improve Let me enumerate:

Check in: not proactive; takes a while to get thru this process. They could be ready with the confirmed guests details and invite the incoming guest.
Lobby: pleasant, spacious and accentuated with ethnic Kerala murals. Nice overall.
Central Airconditioning: doesnt seem to work in the lobby and in corridors.
At times the lobby is wafted with faint smell of fish...specially this was my experience on Sunday night when I have checked in.
Concierge: there is none to pickup the luggage and usher in the guest after the room is allocated. There is a palpable apathy despite the existence of wait staff!
Rooms: well appointed, maintained and spacious. Good bed and fresh linen.
Bathrooms: toiletries are stocked well of good quality; spacious, all the fixtures in working condition. But they could have fixed the washbasin with a plate or so...attention to detail is missing.
Wi Fi: did not work; got to resort to a cable. Thanks to IT guy.
Room Service: quite prompt; tasty dishes overall, But the order taking process and fulfilment needs improvement. They did not deliver on two occassions what was asked for.
Breakfast: good spread and tasty dishes. But thats it. Service is pathetic to say least at this restaurant on 2nd floor. They are neither proactive, prompt or professional. Clearing up the plates, cleaning up the tables, asking the guest about experience or even refilling the water or inviting greeting is absolutely missing.
Check out: quite prompt
Billing: again there was an issue. They are not proactive and prepared to provide a correct billing. Got to redo.
Service is the achilles' heel over here.
Rest of it just fine.
Overall: yes would prefer to stay for a night or so; but not more than that.

Room Tip: Keep asking for the service at breakfast restaurant on 2nd floor only then one would get some servic...
