one of the best places we stayed during our 1 months india trip. it's a very very quiet place, still not far from the park gate and the city center, all within walking distance. there are several room types available for different budgets. we had a room on the top floor with a wonderful balcony from which we could watch monkeys having their breakfast in the trees just a few metres away. we stayed for 5 nights but would have stayed longer if we had had more time...
my highest recommendation, especially since the owners are very helpful and friendly people.

We were welcomed very warmly by Suresh and Sulekha when we arrived without a booking, although it was not high season. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble and they were both helpful and friendly.

The room and bathroom were very clean and we also had a comfortable private balcony overlooking the garden. The shower was good and we were pleased for the hot water before our early start to the sanctuary. It wasn't as warm in the hills as on the coast so the fact that there was no air conditioning was not a problem. A highlight was the roof terrace from which you can sit and watch the birds in the tree tops before sunset.

In particular Suresh was lovely. He wanted us to get the most from our stay and arranged our tour of the wildlife sanctuary and a taxi on to Cherai beach. He was also really knowledgeable about the birds.

I would recommend it very highly.

Spent six nights at this very comfortable, clean and friendly guesthouse in Kumily. As I was travelling with a friend who had stayed here before, he knew to ask for a room at the back upstairs, away from the noise of the road at the front, which isn't excessive but a bit intrusive.

The rooms at the back all look out onto a lovely palm and flowering tree planted garden that the langour monkeys visit every few days to eat the new shoots on the trees which are at the same level as our balcony was, so you get a great close up view of them in the trees. Balconies all have cane chairs and table and are very peaceful.

The other cheeky monkeys, the macaques, also visit regularly so beware leaving any clothing out to dry on the very convenient drying racks on the balcony. as they threw my pants into the trees in full public view! Spent some time with a long stick, retrieving them from the branches!

Breakfast is an extra here but only 150R if you choose to take it I think. We went up the road every day to Chrissie's instead. Beds v comfortable and v clean rooms and bathroom, but with the usual lack of Hooks for hanging stuff on. TV in room and fan and A/c I think, but we didn't need either as it was quite cool at night while we were there. Extra blankets given on request which we had for the cool nights.

Sureesh very helpful with arranging anything you might need or want to do. Ideally placed to walk either into town or down to The Periyar Tiger Reserve as its halfway between each.

Overall a very convenient and comfortable relaxed place to stay offering excellent value for money.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back, there's less noise and looks out over garden.

For a budget stay this place has all the required amenities. The Wi Fi never seemed to reach our room but only seemed to be ours. It wasn't really a problem as we could use it outside the room so didn't raise it. All in all I must say the hosts were very accommodating and helpful

There is constant hot water and great pressure which is always very good.

Although the rooms are fairly basic and the lack of Wi Fi reception for that room i would still highly recommend this place! All amenities, accommodating, pleasant and helpful hosts as well as very good value for money!

Happy sleeping

Meeting Suresh and his wife for the first time put us at ease. Very friendly and chatty hosts, proud of their business. We had a comfortable and enjoyable stay in this clean homestay. No aircon, but a good bed, balcony looking out onto trees. Bathroom clean, with good shower, basin and toilet. Good advice for tours and things to do. We arranged a car back to Fort Kochi at a very reasonable price.

Room Tip: Had a room at the top; steep stairs, but great view from balcony
