Beautiful place when you are in Kumily. If you stay in the hotel or in a bungalow in the garden nearby, it's all so nice to sit right in front of the jungle and to wake up with the sound of the birds and the monkeys. Highly recommended!

The Hotel is a 20 minute walk from the Kumily Bus Stop (which also happens to be RIGHT at the border of Tamil Nadu where you can catch buses to Madurai, TN by just crossing the state border line. (It is like night and day - Kumily is built up with shops and restaurants etc, there is only decrepit stands on the Tamil Nadu side!)
We got Coffee Inn's information from the Lonely Planet guide. I rarely use the recommendations from the book simply because USUALLY once a hotel is listed, they DRASTICALLY increase prices from the ones quoted in the book, simply due to the business they get from the listing. However, prices for hotels online were VERY overpriced. So I called this one up since it was recommended and was quite surprised that the room rates were still VERY reasonable!! And MUCH better than what I was getting online. Kudos to Coffee Inn for not turning Greedy.

The service was great. Upon arrival we were shown the room we originally booked, plus others just incase we would rather upgrade. We were quite happy with the room we booked, so we staying in that one. Beds were a bit hard and there was no A/C, but in early March, it was not needed. The room we chose was in the very back overlooking the reserve by itself, so the WiFi connection would not reach, but you only had to go to the lobby for connection. It is extremely slow anyway, so it is not worth it to choose a room in the main house just for WiFi service in your room.

The entrance to the park is a VERY short walk down the street to the reserve.

Lots of restaurants and shops in the area.

Room Tip: The standard room in the back overlooking the reserve is a nice escape.

Charming little place we stumbled on by accident. Staff were very attentive, room was a nice size, clean with a good view of Periyar Tiger Reserve. A delight to find hot running water and a TV with satellite, well located and great value for money. We were told the restaurant was closed as they were being refurbished but that was not a problem as we found the Coffee Garden - just a short stroll down the road. Would definitely recommend.

The staff were really friendly at the Coffee Inn, helping you with all sorts of things. However, the website and leaflet had the impression it was tucked away in the jungle, so bear in mind that isn't the case when booking. We stayed in the treehouse which was nice but quite open to the elements. Fortunately, a musquito net is provided.

We stayed at the Coffee Inn on Christmas of 2013. It is a very unique and quirky building with a different piece of artwork or woodwork around each twist and turn. We stayed on the 2nd floor with a view overlooking the preserve. The room was spacious and felt very homey. Our friends had the cottage in the garden with the nice courtyard. Jackson, one of the staff, made a fire for us in the garden each night. Our package came with a complimentary breakfast but when we arrived we were informed that the kitchen would not be open til next year and in fact the coffee inn didn't even have coffee at that time. They did comp us breakfast up the street at Thekkady inn which was actually quite good. I would recommend it if you like unusual and unique places to stay. By the way the picture is photo shopped, it's in the middle of the city.

Great value place, we stayed in the little cottage at the end of the garden. We did have a few issues with the room but the staff did everything possible to rectify. They were all friendly. There is WiFi although you have to stand in reception to use it and it's very slow. Overall worth a look and reasonably priced

We stayed in the "Wild Huts" section and well my first impression was "Oh my god do I have to sleep with bugs all around me?"! But i gradually calmed down and took to the place. We were there just two nights and after an incidence free night I was fine. The surroundings are quite pretty and overlook the sanctuary. The rooms are basic but decent. Same goes with the bathroom. The only problem is there's just one plug point and ours was sparking so we couldn't use it!! I had to charge my phone at the reception constantly which was quite painful. And contrary to my initial reaction, no, you dont have to sleep with bugs all around you. haha You might have an occasional frog or weird flying insect but nothing much. Just be sure to keep yhe cottage door shut as much as possible. Also, for tea in the morning there's this lovely homestay next door which sells tea and they even allow you to take the pot and cups to your room in coffee inn!
