We spent a night (unfortunately only one!) in this excellent resort. We really enjoyed our tree-house and it sure enough is a different experience, worth the supplement in price. The plantation surrounding the resort is full of birds and the hotel facilities are excellent. The food was very nice indeed and we even managed to get a beer (room service) ;-)

Unfortunately we stayed only for one nite, should have stayed for at least 2. Best part of this hotel is that it is in the midst of a plantation which they own. I believe they have different types of rooms which may not be to the liking of all especially the cave room. I think the two tree houses are awesome although we had cottage rooms.
Food was good and ample variety, you can get yourself the traditional Kairali massage and other body treatments (slightly expensive though).
The nature walk within the plantation was simply breathtaking. They also also have an evening entertainment of traditional dance.
I really regretted not having stayed for 2 nights.

We had to spend a day around Thekkady as Thekkady for us waz only a stopover between Munnar n Kumarakom/Alleppey …so little research went into it n we accepted our travel agent’s suggestion of putting up at Carmelia Haven rathr promptly … i will elaborate our experience point by point ...pros n cons mixed ;)

1) We booked a honeymoon cottage n were provided a Deluxe Cottage, in wut they term as ‘Upgrade’, when d room of your choice aint available …now why on earth do they let out a room thatz booked already is nothr question …we dint give in tht easy n they had to talk to d occupants requesting them to switch to a Deluxe Cottage …but in d end we decided against d honeymoon cottage as it waz awfully small with a roof sitting facility, which may not be d wisest in d middle of tea plantation
2) Most of d staff, we felt, were incompetent to deal with d customers that may shell out the kind of money they charged …they were, at best, rustic …just being candid …
3) There waz a guided plantation tour, which brings me to the best part of the deal …d property is quite huge n abt 20 of 55 acres have been utilized for d resort, rest cardamom n tea plantation …d guide, with his murugan English n like sense of humour, did a v good job of selling his master’s property n undoubtedly gave us a good time …d trek through d property was thoroughly enjoyable …n general property maintenance turned out to be pretty good …very clean for the size …
4) There are some thoughtful inserts like an old fashioned coffee shop, a souvenir shops with decent prices, a recreation room where u have carom, chess n TT, an Ayurveda Therapy Centre etc …We took massage followed with Steam Bath thr n found it reasonable …
5) Dinner spread waz decent, quality barely so …out of some 12 items, about 3 were acceptable …breakfast waz a notch better but nothing to write home about …at a plantation that sells some indigenous coffee powder, d manager at d eatery could not distinguish between instant coffee n filter coffee ;)
6) D rooms – honeymoon cottages, deluxe cottages, cave room, tree house, suite room (!!!) etc …tree houses looked attractive at v secluded corners n tickles your romanticism …d few deluxe cottages we saw had moderately sized rooms with big bathrooms …very bad room maintenance – rooms r smelly n damp, dimly lit …bed sheets, bed, switches, phone, pillow covers – almost everything needs maintenance …
7) Anothr problem is that this place is about 45-55 mins drive from Perrier where you have all the Kallaripayatu/Kathakali shows, the boating (not operating in Dec’09 owing to the boat capsize) etc …u r very far from all the activities here …so this is good for short stays by honeymooners, people who just want to relax and people who come for ayurveda treatment …

In short this property is nice n calm with very downmarket rooms and food …a good relaxation getaway for a night …we liked our stay cause it was short n eventful …scroll down for more reviews and you’d know exactly why am saying so 

Google Earth location:
9°43'55.91"N, 77° 8'57.32"E
copy paste the above values to Google Earth search bar to get the location.

The Good:
Very friendly staff, excellent natural landscape with lot of spices, Kailasam adventurous trip by 4wheel Jeep loved by children, Good Ayurvedic message, excellent plantation trip by very good guide Gopan.

The Bad:
Very small Honeymoon cottage (but has a good roof top balcony giving overall view of property), Very bad experience with ' Elephant Trai ' Elephant Safari included in package, Outrageous extra charges for New Year Eve was a waste, Boat trip in Kailasam doesn't look safe (But very friendly staff at Kailasam lake provided all they could for fishing in lake which thrilled children), Food is average but after complaining it got better.

I spent 2 days at Carmelia Haven during my honeymoon and and left the place dragging our feet. The hotel encompasses 55 acres of property and is a good place even if to just hang around in the evenings.
Has a nice store - reasonably priced items that you can purchase as souvenirs.
I think the high point of Carmelia Haven which took my heart away was the the courtesy of the staff. The hospitality is out of the world. They arranged a candle light dinner for me which i can never forget.
The resort has an ayurvedic massage centre which was a good change from spas and jacuzzis.
The place also had a watch tower which lends a beautiful view of the resort.
Food was very very tasty and the waiters very eager to help.
Pleasure to write this review :).

This place is any thing but Heaven, it should have been named Carmelia Hell! It is highly over priced for the junk bedding and facilities they provide. The food is awful and first morning after our horrible night in a smelly room we wittnessed unprofessinal treatment of one very furious couple who had asked for room service and resturant had sent their food along with some disgustingly dirty and muggly piece as their tray cover. The lady was asking the resturant personal if that is normal and they were looking at her with any sense of understanding. Finally she got so angry when she didn't get any reply so she turned to us shouting if we thought that was dirty! This whole incident scared the hell out of our 4 and 6 years old children and my little daughter was asking me why this lady is shouting on her mum and dad... . We showed our understanding and sympathy to her and she calmed down. But my question to the greedy owner of this place is, why do you treat your guests that have paid 120 $ a night like sheeps!!! People coming to holiday expect courtesy and value for the money they have paid. For this junky place we paid 120$ a night and it is the same rate that we paid for Radison SAS hotel in Orland in USA. I am sure the rate paid to the workers in this hotel is far below the rates in USA which would probably leave the hands of this greedy owner to refurbish this place and make improvments but NO, Not with this particular property and this owner!
THeir activity program is bad joke! The boat trip they mentioned in their package is bascially an awful trip in a very old filthy ready to sink boat and the whole trip last for 5 minutes, not even worth to go in.
The factroy visit and the Jeep safari is of the same bad standard and the huge piece of land they talk and brag about is not part of the resort but part of their plantations, so don't imagine that your kids will run and enjoy playing in a big piece of land dedicated to resort guests!

Not a place for family with small kids: the bathroom of our so called Deluxe room was full of mugles and the whole room was smelling of damped air and muggle and when we mentioned that to them they simply refused accepting and came with rediculous explantion that it is the smell of lemon grass!!! The blanket given to our children's extra bed were so thin that I have to give them their jackets and out door clothes to prevent them from shivering!
