We stayed at Lake Palace with family (kids incl.) and it was the best part of our recent trip to India. The location, right in the middle of the lake, was awesome. We could see nature all around us and if you are lucky see wildlife close.

From the moment we checked in at the office at the perimeter of the lake you are treated like royalty. They take you by boat to the hotel. The hotel staff (Mr. Dinesh and team) treat you like family. You can order any food, anytime and they serve great food with a friendly smile. We requested what we would like to have for our various meals and they were able to accommodate it. Their best was their fried chicken (KFC style but with Indian spices), jack fruit dessert made in Kerala style. My daughters fell in love with jack fruit and wanted to have more. They were able to get fresh jack fruit off the tree just for her.

The rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable. I was surprised to see Wi-Fi and cable TV there! Perfect! There are only six rooms so even if they are all full you can still get the privacy and quietness to relax. Each room has a balcony with chairs and coffee table and a view of the forest around. However, room 44 has the best view.

My family and I had the best sleep, food and service, and most memorable vacation time in Thekkady and the Lake Palace hotel during our Kerala vacation in July 2013. We stayed for 3 nights and 2 days, had deliciously tasty, home-made cooked food by the excellent cook there, enjoyed tremendously the river rides and taking photos of the animals near the Lake Palace and around the river. The hospitality of the manager and all his staff is commendable and we truly enjoyed the peace and quiet in the mornings and the evenings. Having 6 rooms only to handle means personable service and we indeed felt taken care of. This is the best place in Thekkady if one wishes to be among nature yet have every facility (with a little slow Internet) and feel almost like at home! Just a boat ride away from the noise and hustle of the city, this king's summer palace is the best place to visit during the summer - it was so cool and we were lucky to get only slight drizzles of rain. I suppose monsoon not the best time to see all the animals but nonetheless my family enjoyed every minute of being in the Lake Palace. Kudos to the experienced chef who not only cooked South Indian curries that were tasty even to non-Indians but was equally excellent in preparing North Indian specialties as well. A small team that works beautifully well!

Room Tip: If you are lucky to book in advance, go for #44 - the best view!

This Resort was amazing had only 5 rooms and location was great. Surrounded by lake periyar and periyar forest, also had to get there by boat. Service was very personalized Mr. Devendra was fantastic, my kids still remember him and his magic tricks. We were able to see lots of animals and hear the tiger growl in the night. I would highly recommend this place.

As many reviews say, this is more of a hunting lodge rather than a palace. The location is stunning, can't beat it and the staff were very attentive. We were the only ones there and stayed with our 2 children at Room 44 which has an excellent view. The grounds are fantastic and look immaculate however the hotel itself is looking very tired and needs a good overhaul. The table cloths had stains on them, the bathrooms had poor showers, and the bed linen was rough and not nice.

We took 2 boat trips and were lucky enough to see an elephant (they hadn't seen one for 1.5 weeks), and could see deer, bison, monkeys and wild boar from our room. It was quite surreal being somewhere so quiet in India - the peace was incredible.

On a downside, you would think that for the price you pay to stay there it could include the park entrance fee of 300 rupee each. Also, beer and wine was not included in the price which for an all inclusive was a bit stoogy I thought. A lovely experience though.

Room Tip: Room 44 is best room

We stayed at the room no 44 (the most famous room with the best view, but other five rooms also seemed to have good view). As I mentioned with only 6 rooms this palace where the prince used to stay (there is one photograph of his), is located in a stunning little island in the midst of the lake periyar. You will be given a complimentary boat ride from thekkady to the island. When we were close to the resort we could see the palace from the distance and the look was truly breathtaking!! While we were being transported to the palace we saw some elephants and the person in charge of the vessel took the ship near the elephants for a better view! Regarding the room, there was a princely stamp all over. Just for instance, you can see the indian bison and deers with other wild life while you are having a cup of tea in your balcony. When we visited, we were the only people as the other rooms were empty. That also helped us feel like kings!!

Let me start by saying we were fortunate enough to see elephants, buffalo, bison, deer, wild boar, wild dogs, monkeys and some beautiful birds so this may affect our review.

Unfortunately even if you are staying at one of the 3 hotels within the national park you still have to pay the 300 rupee per person entrance charge, something we think should have been waivered for hotel guests as these are government owned hotels.

You have to wait for a boat to be transfered to the hotel which was something of a drawn out process but was worth it when you arrive. We wee greeted with refreshing fruit juices. Bear in mind the grounds are very small and there are only 6 guests rooms for the entire hotel. We were told to stay within the dug out trench as this was there to keep out snakes and other bad animals, something which amused us as at the back of the property there was a walk way over said trench.

We paid a premium for the only room out of the 6 which had a lake view which cost more money. We would definitely say do not bother paying the extra for this room as we spent the whole afternoon and early evening with the other hotel guests sitting along our wall and on the grass in front of our room therefore had no privacy. As soon as the sun sets around 7pm it is total pitch black and you cannot see anything, if you own night vision, take it!

The price can only be justified by the beautiful location of this hotel. My wifes initial words were something to the effect of "did a king really live here" so do not expect palace 5 star living like she did. It is 3 star at best but saying that the view really is superb. Waking up to the stillness and peacefulness early in the morning really is next to none.

The hotel staff were all very tentative constantly offering drinks and trying to prepare any food to suit your wishes. They really did make you feel that they would try their best for you and were always smiley.

The boats going backward and forward through the park all day long really do render the chances of you ever seeing a tiger nigh impossible. That said the hotel manager did inform us that once the elephants did come right up to the hotel and he offered to show photos and videos. Unfortunately we forgot to ask to see them before we left.

This hotel really is probably the most peaceful relaxing naturally outstanding place you could stay in india. Just dont expect a palace living or amenities. Haven for relaxation of this worlds natural beauty, 100%.

This property has changed my conception of normal government property. Excellent service and well located in the heart of the jungle. Which impressed me was an all inclusive package which covers all the meals and a morning trekking. Great views of elephant and deer in the morning and those chanting music of birds this is a must one time visit property. Though it had got no five star facility, which one expect for the rate charged, you will have to look only at the location and service rendered.

Room Tip: All rooms are good and well placed. But make sure you reach before 5:00pm since you have to travel b...
