“In Lap Of Nature”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 5, 2014

It is an amazing place with a lot of effort to conserve energy. Most of the products are made of recycled stuff. The staff was amazingly sweet and prompt. You feel welcomed from the moment you enter the hotel. The food is out of the world where a lot of variety is home grown organic food. Have never tasted whole meal muffin before this. The spread was lavish and the food especially prawns and fish were amazing.
Tried the massage at the Ayurveda center and literally slept through as it was so relaxing. Since we had gone in the monsoon, the beauty of the place was unbelievable.
Good recreation activities. The bar has some amazing photos on the wall.
All in all, superb place. Only small drawback was the mosquitos which I am not sure can be attributed to the season.
The staff came all the way out to say bye to us and that was a very sweet gesture.

Enjoyed every bit of stay Spice village, an excellent ambiance to start with , The property is themed on eco-friendlyness and the theme runs to the core right from a paper quill pen all the way to no AC's in the rooms to in campus grown food produce.

No television in the room is a must have experience to get your self taking with yourself.

Service is exemplary, and have not come across such a level of staff service so far.

You rock guys !!!

If there was one thing that could be better is make the rooms less audible to people on the walkways.

Room Tip: Get rooms as far away from the reception and other rooms to get the best privacy. Even normal speaki...

We stayed here at Spice Village while on a tour of India. We had never been to Thekaddy before and stayed here on the recommendation of our tour company.

As others have written this is an eco-friendly property and strives to create an environment consistent with that principle. There are some nice features for guests, like the guided walks, cooking demonstration, and dance performances. Also, another strength of the property is the food. The quality of the food in the main restaurant was excellent -- both at breakfast and dinner. The service was also very good.

Now to the rooms -- the rooms are actually separate cottages laid out on rather large grounds. As others have written, there is no wifi, no TVs in the room, and no air conditioning. Although the temperatures do drop in the evening is it not always "cold" depending on the time of year. And because of the nature of the construction of the cottages (a bit more rustic) stray mosquitos do get into the rooms. All of this is to say that if you are accustomed to properties with more traditional amenities, this may not be the place for you. But if you are willing to give up some of the Western creature comforts for a day or two, it could be an interesting experience. We upgraded to a deluxe villa which was very spacious.

The hotel is walking distance to the "main drag" where there are stores, other hotels, restaurants, etc. There is also a Kathakali dance performance at a venue just a short walk away.

We had a chance to stay at this place while on our visit to Thekaddy. This property is nicely maintained and staff is courteous and friendly. The property is well laid out and has its own farm, bio treatment of waste, solar panels etc. The hotel organizes many activities for the residents and once inside there is no need to go outside. The food is expensive and the bar is more expensive as in Thekkady only this property has the liquor license. There is no TV or Newspaper in the rooms as this is an eco-friendly hotel. WiFi is free throughout the campus. There are wild hens inside the campus and a small swimming pool

Room Tip: Chose rooms near the restaurant as they provide a better view and easy access to all areas.

This hotel is gorgeous. It's simple and rustic and extremely eco friendly. It's got random game running about the property even the occasional monkey pops in for a visit. It's well maintained, quiet and extremely relaxing. The bar is gorgeous. It's got this old hunting cabin theme and is a great place to enjoy a quick drink. The rooms are top notch and though wifi is restricted to the lobby if you're room is close by you will catch signal. They have their own range of hand made soaps and scrubs and I think one of the best properties in the region.

The food at the hotel is outstanding, specially the local Malyali fare. It tends to be standard buffet which is also very good. Don't miss the breakfast spread!
