“Simon is a legend and his plantation is awesome”
Reviewed January 25, 2010

My girlfriend and I stayed at Paradisa Plantation for 2 nights as part of a month-long odyssey across India and it was one of the highlights of our trip. We had the most amazing time here.

The accommodation was as fantastic as the views – the retreat is comprised of beautifully furnished traditional wooden houses nestled in the lush and bountiful jungle of the cardamom hills.

As for the food, the kitchen at the Paradisa Plantation is something of a culinary miracle. No corners are cut and no sacrifices made in presenting guests with incredible freshly prepared dishes of traditional Keralan cuisine. The breakfast fruit platters are fit for a king and the evening meals of fresh fish are incredible and the portions huge! The manager Roy is hugely passionate about the food and his attention to detail and keenness to impress and please guests is second to none. The team there demonstrate a lot of creative flair with the food and the freedom they are given really shows.

But the real highlight of our visit here was our host, Simon... He took us on walks and on a visit to his tea factory where he showed us how tea is made and entertained us with his stories and his knowledge of the area: from the local flora and fauna to the wildlife and birds. He even took us for a beer to the most amazing planters club which, in my opinion, stands as one of the greatest bars on earth for it's character and charm! He really made our time there very special.

If you're thinking about a trip to Kerala don't hesitate in booking here. We can't wait to return!

Simon, thanks for your hospitality

There is something very special about this little place. Perched up in the cardamon hills, tucked off the main road from Allepey to Thekkady it's an oasis of calm. We had 3 nights here and were thoroughly spoilt. The location is amazing. All the little cottages are tucked away in peaceful grounds so you really feel like you're in a complete retreat. The food is by far the best we had throughout the whole of our trip in India, good fresh and local ingredients and masses of it every meal. Simon and his staff and completely focused on making your stay exactly what you want it to be (in our case as much of doing nothing as possible). I had to be dragged screaming out when it was time to leave...one not to miss. It's expensive but well worth it. Yoga by the pool wtih an incredible view will stay wtih me for years

Well worth the 4 hour drive up from the coast, this smallish resort hotel is on the side of the steep hills with fabulous views out of the terraced site. We were lucky enough to be given the pair of rooms which is actually a traditional ancient timber house which had been painstakingly dismantled, transported here from another part of India and rebuilt. The whole thing oozes character and charm. Food was first rate - home cooked Keralan cooking - and the service and hospitality from the owner, Simon, to the GM, Roy, and throughout the staff was second to none. No hesitation in recommending this one.

I completely agree with Erich.NY. We spent three days there over Christmas with our kids (11 and 16 yrs) and we all loved it. Breathtaking views, lovely food but most memorable for us were Simon and his team. They really make you feel at home and do their utmost to keep you comfortable. As my son says, whenever we talk about Kerala: 'I want to visit Simon again!'

Stayed two nights early February 2009 and really loved the place. As other reviewers said if you are a TV and internet freak forget it this is not for you, but if you want to recenter, to spend sometime thinking, listening to nature's sounds and just enjoying the really incredible view, this is the place to be. The food is excellent, Roy, the manager will do anything to please you, Simon, the owner is quite a character, the place has great atmosphere and is just magical.

Stayed for a couple of nights in December 08 with 2 young children. Of course the room had a few bugs, but you're on a Plantation in the forest, not at the Las Vegas Four Seasons.

Good accommodation, great resort with beautiful views on mountains and tea plantations. The staff is more than happy to talk you for short walking trips in or around the plantation, showing you coffee, team, cacao, lemongrass, pepper and all sorts of plans and herbs... and some of the best mountain vistas in this part of India.

But the cherry on the pie here is Simon, your host, who will do everything to ensure that each member of your party is having the best possible time while at Paradisa.

The host Simon is helpful, charming and a great storyteller. The food was very good and all the staff were wonderful. We were booked in for 2 nights but had to leave after one as our bedroom had no hot water although we were assured that it was working to be fair it was a new room but was filled with every creepy known to man from a very large hairy spider downwards in size. When we complained we were told that this was life in the Jungle and the hotel was eco friendly and could not use pesticides. We then moved to another hotel that sprayed their rooms twice a week with natural herbal products and continued with a bug free holiday
