Very quite, natural and wild place. Normally its very safe and decent place but one must take care as its a wild life Sanctuary. Follow your mentor's instructions.

Tourists are promised the chance of seeing wild animals in their natural habitat, but it is seldom achieved here. No doubt the river cruise takes you through beautiful locations, but there are many sore points associated with the overall experience:
* There are 4 boats (50 Passengers each) which leave in any given tour. The seats are not at all comfortable, on top of it, each passenger is made to wear a life vest, after which one is not even able to turn one's neck and see around. Most passengers ditch this 5 minutes into the ride.
* The staff is very unfriendly and rude.
* When you take tickets, you have to pay extra if you have a camera. Ensure that you take a receipt for it. Most of the times the attendant doesn't give you a receipt for it, and pockets the extra money. The staff on the boat then ask for the receipt and make you pay again. This happened to us, but we were adamant and did not pay again on the boat, since we had paid at the window.
* Wild animals generally do not come out to the water for a drink until late evenings, so there are very few chances that you would see anything apart from some deer and bison.
* This place has a lot of monkeys, beware of your bags, they'll jump you and snatch them when they get a chance.

A truly unique and wonderful experience of boat trip in Periyar wildlife sanctuary, about 1hr and 30mins long this boat trip costed 150 INR per person and kids below 5yrs are free on ride but with no seats. It's a unique way of looking at the wildlife while they are outside the jungle near the lake, I have seen Sambar Deer, Wild Buffalo, Monitor Lizard and couple of birds like Herons, King Fishers, Snake Bird, etc.

The place is excellent and provides travelers with calmness and tranquility. You must be lucky to see some elephants but you can easily see other animals,

We had a lovely day in the park, a trek surrounding the lakes and forest. We took a bamboo raft in between trekking through the park. The breakfast and lunch we were given was good. However the information was very poor this may have been have been due to our rep.

Tips: take rucksac to carry the provided lunch and water in.
Wear walking boots.
Take sun protection ( umbrella) for bamboo raft ride.
Ask for small group as your more likely to be quiet enough to hopefully see animals.
