“Biased staff”
Reviewed January 14, 2013

The overall experience was awesome but was little upset with the behaviour of the staff there. We were there on 31st December and there was a rush of foreigners also. We had taken 2 1/2 hours programme which included elephant ride, feeding the elephant, bathing the elephant and shower by the elephant. Everything was good but we were refused to bathe the elephant, when we asked, they said it was available only during the off season. The disheartening part was that we saw foreigners availing it. We took it with the management...and there was nothing more than a meek apology,

“Great Kathakkali Show experience”
Reviewed January 10, 2013

We did not do the Elephant ride here as we did it in Munnar itself but we went for the Kathakalli Show and it was a Really a Great experience watching the show . This included 30 minutes of preview of the process of getting ready with the costumes for the Show. It was really worth it..

“Kids would love it!”
Reviewed January 10, 2013

We had gone on a camel ride once and after that experience we were expecting the worst from this one. But I got to say, it was very comfortable. We only took the 30 minutes ride and it was the perfect duration to keep our 6 year old entertained. We made him sit all the way in the front, so he got to pet the elephant's back and get a good view. The elephant, Badri, who we went on, was just a calf and kept stopping to eat on its way. The mahout kept gently scolding it for not walking but snacking all the time. I dont know if it was a planned activity for them but my son found it funny. The photo session also went very well.

Accessibility to that place is a little dodgy. The final stretch is just a mud road and unless you are in a big vehicle, watch out! Parking was also a problem, more so due to peak season crowd. We had pre-booked for a specific time, but reached there a bit early, but were on an elephant after just 5 minutes wait. But after seeing other reviews writing about long waits, I am wondering if we got in early because our car driver was in cahoots with the management.

This place also provides tickets for other attractions like Kalari attam, Kathakali, magic show etc. We tried the kalari attam (venue elsewhere) and loved it too.

“Bad experience with management”
Reviewed January 10, 2013

We had a horrible experience with the management at this place.

We had pre-booked the 30 mins elephant ride for Rs. 300 per person. We reached couple of minutes prior to our schedule, but were given to understand that it might take half an hour more because of back-log due to rush season. We patiently waited for 1 hour but got seriously furious when we heard the booking number ahead of us being called for. Apparently there was a large group and management was pushing for them! Our discussion with management took a bad turn when the lady accused us of not coming on time! .. We got our money back and strode out.

Even though we couldn't take the ride, the size and health of elephants was a let down. I was expecting to see huge mammoth generally stereotyped for Kerala elephants and here it was just 9-10 feet high creature!

“Pretty cool but you only need the 30 min ride.”
Reviewed January 9, 2013

Coming from experience of wanting to do a lot in one day I think the 30 min for 350 rupees is the best deal and all that most people would need. That way you can do the wildlife sanctuary, get a massage, a nice meal, shop, etc...

But if you want to really do a second lap for another 30 minutes or bath a huge elephant then by all means it's nice they have that as an option.

Remember riding an elephant puts you in a awkward and unatural position. If you have a bad back or tire easily do not do more than the 30 min ride.

The guides do a good job of taking photos so make sure to throw them a tip. For all you PEETA people out there I know it's kinda cruel but the elephants get breaks and are fed and at least don't have to worry about those tigers that you'll never see in the sanctuary (that was a joke at the park).
