“Excellent value for money! Great price/quality ratio!”
Reviewed January 12, 2013

When I got of the bus from Madurai I was approached by the owner of the guesthouse. I don't usually go into these offers. However, the guy looked trustworthy and I decided to give him a chance. This turned out the be a very good decision! The room were big, spotless and the guest house was located in a quiet area some 10min walk from the center of town. The place itseld had a very nice chillout area the first floor. Whats more, the owners are very friendly and helpful. Thry can help organise any trip in the area or entrance to the wildlife reserve. I can highly recommend this place!

Unfortunately there was not enough warm water for bathing. TV was present but not with remote. Place was not a bar but people were drinking in open veranda which is little intimidating. Sleep quality was good and clean bathrooms. I would advise owner to clean up stacked liquor bottles in the backyard, does not look good.

We arrived in Kumily by bus having made no reservations (not ever really necessary in low season). We were met by a man called Binu at the bus station who worked for one of the tourism companies and we said we wanted somewhere cheap. He quoted 300Rupees a night and we thought it sounded too good to be true, but went along to have a look anyway as we weren't pushed for time. We were so glad we had trusted him as Seven Hills home stay is just lovely.

It is located about a 7 minute walk from the bus station, down the small road to the right of the government tourist office. It's an easy stroll through a residential area and I quite enjoyed walking in and out each day (all the children say 'HELLOO!' to you as you walk past.)

The home stay itself had a big decked area out the front with a massive table where you can get breakfast (for 50Rs each) and there was also a swinging chair. I think there were four or five double rooms, and a room out the front where the family seemed to be living. It wasn't very busy when we were there but I think when the place is full it'd be a sociable area to hang out and meet people if you want to.

The room was large, exceptionally clean and the bathroom had hot water. We had a small TV as well.

We couldn't believe the price and kept re-confirming that it was just 300rs a night for both of us, and it was. (They said to keep quiet about it as another couple were paying 500/night. We would have been happy to pay 500 had it been the initial quote!)

Binu, the man from the bus station who worked for the tourism company was one of about 9 workers who help out places like these and help tourists find somewhere for a good price - it is a win win situation and they are trustworthy! Binu ferried us around in his tuk tuk for the next 2 days for free and helped us get reduced price for an elephant ride and an ayurvedic massage. If you come across one of these men they aren't trying to mislead or scam you!

Definitely recommended, a small walk off the beaten track is a small price to pay for peaceful, friendly place to retreat to.
