This was a lovely homestay right on the edge of Periyar Wildlife Park. Because of the bus strikes we had to rearrange our dates staying so we moved from one room to another the next night. The first room was beautiful with a wooden headboard easily the best we stayed in our whole trip of India (budget). The next night we moved to another room on the ground floor. There were two rooms within the complex with a dining room and a kitchen (not for use). The room was nice but not as great as the room above but they were very apologetic and were good to accommodate us on a different date so it was fine. The downstairs room toilet did not have a seat and we paid Rs800 a night for both rooms.
The homestay is at the top of a long road and we walked down there a couple of times in the dark towards Chrissy's where we always ate. We were told it was safe enough but you might want a torch and if female and alone it may be something to consider. I cant remember if they provided breakfast or dinner for extra but when we arrived about mid afternoon there was no food available at the homestay for lunch.
Kumily is lovely and there is a shop called Ganesh Arts or something like that. We spent hours in there with a lovely family so when it was time for the hard sell even they were looking awkward. I definitely recommend a visit to Chrissy's Cafe for food. Elephant Junction is a definite must see for an elephant ride, feeding the elephant and my absolute highlight of the trip - washing an elephant and sitting on it while she sprayed me with her trunk. Possibly not recommended if its really cold and cost Rs1500 for an hour and a half.
