“Short stay at a cardamon plantation Resort with wonderful kerela food”
Reviewed May 25, 2013

We stayed in one of the duplex type plantation villa having drawing room ground floor with TV , sofaset & natural toilet partially open to atmosphere & living room on first floor. It displays architectural excellence with rooms designed & curved out of rocks. We were surprised to note that one unit is actually having giant rock by the bedside with virtually open & yet secure toilet which inspired feeling of living in harmony with nature.
Resident manager John guided us walk through plantation & explained about plantation & various birds around us.Young chef Charles prepared wonderful & unique simple & exotic kerela food with topping of fresh spices triggering unforgettable experience.
Cleanliness is required to be improved further & all wooden furniture need to be cleaned & polished.

Room Tip: PL choose duplex room

Homely friendly staff, decent homestyle food cleanly prepared and you wake up to the sound of a stream running by your window.
An ideal 2 day break to or from Munnar. Infact we enjoyed Thekkady and this homestay better than Munnar which is overrated.

I had been searching for something like this for ages. If all you want to hear is the birds chirping and the wind rustling through the leaves towards your exquisite granite abode, Mayapott is the place to be. What made it homely was the effort put into the service by the team Mr.John, Mr Paul and the chef Mr.Charles .The food especially , was delicious ! .The building exists , but it's the handful there who make it a serene home away from home. A trip to the Combai plantation and a drive around adds more spice to the trip. If all you want is greenery around , the soul of nature to hug you and talk to you , and get lost in your dreams ( with your mobiles switched off ) ....this is the place to be...

We were a little tired searching for the location. I even started wondering whether I made the right decision of choosing Mayapott - a "hideout"! And then when we saw it, it was out of this world. Amidst some 100+ acres of Cardamom and Pepper plantations, there stands a 5 room bungalow built on a rock. A narrow stream flowing by within the property and a staff that makes you feel at home. Kerala delicacies for a sit down breakfast and dinner with a warm and friendly smile. The day ends at 7pm here and the night is filled with bird chirping and water flowing sounds. May be there is a scope to add some luxury in the room - bed and toiletries but that's not necessary. Truly relaxing and refreshing.

Stayed at Mayapott for 4 nights as a group of 3. The location is very peaceful with lots of interesting bird life to be seen in the house grounds and surrounding plantations. It was a pleasure to relax in such a place. The service from the 3 staff was friendly and attentive and the keralan food prepared everyday by young chef Mr Charles was outstanding. I have lived in South India previously for one and a half years and have never experienced food as fresh and tasty as this at any hotel or guesthouse. I thoroughly reccommend Mayapott to anyone who appreciates peace quiet and good food. Many thanks again to John, Charles and Bebe for making our stay a memorable one.

Room Tip: We had the suite away from the main house across the walkway.

We felt that we had this inspiring palace to ourselves. My room at the hideaway was built around gigantic boulders imbedded into the surrounding rainforest. The intimate, boutique hotel feels more like a luxurious castle with its hand-hewn stone bridges and moats. Constructed as part of the high point of rocks called “Mystic Point” or “Mayapott” in the native language. The rock fortress is said to have been a place where villagers could retreat from wild elephants that lived in the surrounding forest. Today the sanctuary offers a honeymoon villa suite, two bedroom suites, spa and dining room to moderns tired of fighting their own wild elephants.

This was one of the most beautiful and pleasant places at which we have ever stayed. Our host, John made our stay there so special. His attention to his guests was impeccable and his cooking was absolutely delicious. He ensured that, depsite having a full house of guests of a wide age range, each person felt individually cared for and got out of their stay what they in particular were looking for. The situation of Mayapott is idyllic and the architecture absolutely stunning. (Frank Lloyd-Wright is my favourite architect and so to stay in a house modelled on Falling Waters was quite special.)

We so appreciated how much time and effort John put into creating an itinerary for us which was a balance between maximising what the area has to offer and relaxing. Although Mayapott is slightly off the neaten track and so one needs to have a car or driver to get to the surrounding attractions (of which there are many), that is part of its beauty - you really are "away from it all" when there. The peace, quiet and tranquility are so refreshing, soothing and therapeutic. Our only regret about visiting Mayapott is that we didn't stay for longer.

Mayapott is indeed a special place to which I would love to return and to which I recommend anyone going to that area to stay.

Room Tip: Choosing the suite is well worth the small additional cost
