Club Mahindra Thekkady

Location: excellent; very central in Thekkady, yet feels remote. Great setting, with our room providing treetop views, with a wonderful breeze wafting through, thus rendering air conditioning unnecessary.

Rooms: Old rooms, dimly lit, old TV, needs refurbishment. The toliet was ok.

Food: Reasonable; adequate value. The nearby Ambadi restaurant was great value for lunch in particular.

Service: quite good. Very helpful lady at the front desk, who ensured the replacement of a rickety chair in our room.

Overall, a resort with great but unfulfilled potential.

I spent 5 days in Tusker Trails. While it is not the best kept Club Mahindra property, I do think it is one of the best in the neighbourhood of Thekkady. I found that they were very consciously avoiding using plastic, excess packaging materials etc since they are in the middle of a national tiger reserve. Some of the infrastructure, esp the toilets need a face-lift, but everything worked well and was kept clean. I liked the central location of the property.. walking distance to Kumily and if you want to take a walk in the national park, you walk 1.5 km to the tiger reserve entrance, buy a ticket and walk another 2.5Km to the boat landing... its a great experience being amongst tall jack fruit, teak and other evergreen trees. Don't come here expecting to see a tiger, come here to watch birds and explore a piece of western ghats jungle - take the nature walk and ask for guide Ganapathi ( a keen birder's eye), and see the kalari show in the evening.

Being a member of club Mahindra I felt I have been ripped off my valuable nights. Though the resort looks great from outside with good architecture. Problem is bathroom are old flash do not work. Wash basin damaged. Rooms were big though but need renovation. It was hot fan were high on the roof no AC. Asked for at least a table or stand fan which they did not have. On the positive note staff were good they tried all they can do to make our stay comfortable with limited facility and limited resources. Sad part is even after giving feedback to Club Mahindra they do not even bother to get back to their customer. My suggestion Avoid there are better resorts just near by with cheaper rates.

Room Tip: There are no good room all are bad. Still if u end up there choose 205 or 206. avoid 201 and 201.

its a small resort, with narrow trails leading to villas and studios at different levels.
the spa is very nice and has a medical professional suggesting the treatments.
the hotel very efficiently arranged for 4 day tours for us. all the trips were value for money and well arranged.
the food coupons were very reasonable. wide spread buffet.
the rooms were clean and modern. the kitchen was partial but had all basic amenities.

I stayed here with my family and found it very basic in terms of location and ambience. We drove down from Bangalore and took Salem – Dindigul – kodai Raod – Batalgundu – Theni – Kumily road, covered in 8 hours. The road condition is good throughout expect last stretch but manageable. For who are new to this place Thekkady is same as Kumily just left from the main road. This small town is situated on one street I believe and finish within 1 KM, hence don’t expect this place to be like Munnar or other major hill stations.
The Club Mahindra resort is located before Periyar Tiger reserve main gate entrance. The resort has cottages situated on and off hilly terrain and have jungle like feel, it also have a small swimming pool adjacent to the restaurant. The rooms are big but with no AC, one fan which also cannot help when the outside temp was > 35 or 37 degrees. The food served as buffet with limited variety and overly priced.
However, as stated before the town is very small hence don’t expect nice restaurant so its upto you to choose where to eat.
The places to see are very limited and the nearest is the Periyar boat safari and Elephant ride. They also have few cultural programs in evening at few places in the town.
Overall very basic location and don’t have the feel of a hill station. The resort is also not very charming just good enough for Thekkady.

Room Tip: Get rooms close to reception if you have elderly people as the walk can be tiring.

We had been to Tusker Trails, Thekkady between 06-09 of April 2013. I have been to many other club mahindra properties, but this one surely disappoints you. You dont have much sight seeing to do other than boating in river. The other sight seeing activity patronised by the resort is a full day trip to a place called Gavi, which is priced at astronomical levels.

The food appeared monotonous. Would suggest good improvement in the food served. It takes an awful lot of time to get a refill of the food also. On the whole the food department needs to be made better considering the price they charged. Even the activity centre lacked much activities.

On the whole, i felt very disappointed with my trip to Club Mahindra Thekkady.
