The Palace has an air of faded grandeur - especially the gardens.
Exhibits are interesting and the walk-about fills a good one and a half hours.

The grounds are In great need of care and could be spectacular if properly groomed. The place itself has been allowed to deteriorate and the displays are not memorable to say the least. For instance, the royal Jewell's and silver articles, as well as the gold crown which was presented to the Rama by de Gama, need to be dusted and polished to show their beauty and craftsmanship. The entrance fee is so cheap that one doesn't feel cheated.....just disappointed that the reality doesn't live up to the promise. If you don't have to go too far out of your to get there you might want to give it a shot. Otherwise dont bother.

There are plenty of artefacts in this palace, but the whole place needs a major makeover. There are lovely jewels and weapons etc. but all so poorly displayed and described that their significance is lost on you. For some reason there is a massive fibre glass dinosaur outside. It could go a long way if made more visitor friendly.

Usually museums in India are worthless: Badly maintained, uninteresting collections of crap, with yellow aged signs in local language and English telling you it is "A FOLK MASK". This museum was actually interesting and every room had a English-speaking guide to tell you what there was. I recommend visiting the Hill Palace even though it is a little far from Fort Cochin/Ernakulam.
