We stayed in the Arches in September 2012 for 4 weeks. We often travel to India and stay in Kochi, but a hotel experience was new to us. The staff were amazingly helpful in many respects including booking taxis, organising trips and facilitating whatever we requested. Above all,the staff were warm and so friendly and we were hugely impressed by them. The hotel has 10 bedrooms and a a wonderful rooftop restaurant which made breakfast in particular special. All the rooms are above ground floor. The best rooms are those overlooking the street, which have balconies.Staff were available day and night and we felt very safe. The hotel is central to all the shops, restaurants, bars, travel agents and bookshops and the seashore including the Chinese nets. We would recommend this place to anyone visiting Fort Cochin, both those who are new to India and seasoned travellers. As a small boutique hotel, this is unbeatable.

Room Tip: Balcony rooms have the best outlook.

We were greeted with a necklace of jasmine and a refreshing drink, however of note was the call of concern to our pick up driver from the airport when we were stuck in traffic and running late. The concern and care of the staff is very genuine, not the perfunctory checking in you get in most places. They arranged for everything, the Kathakali performance, a must see in Cochin, and the boat trip. I am not one to welcome a lot of attention, however the friendliness and charm of the staff was just right and appreciated. Our room with a little balcony was wonderful. In fact it was much cleaner than most 5 star hotels I’ve stayed at. It looked freshly painted. The room was large with comfortable bed, plentiful hot water, well lit, good AC and WiFi that worked, an excellent retreat. The rooftop restaurant offered a good basic breakfast. If ever I return to Cochin, I will certainly stay at Arches.

We stayed only one night in Hotel Arches, and it was a wonderful experience.
The staff were friendly and professional (even slightly over-enthusiastic at times).
The rooftop restaurant had great views, and the location was great! Close to everything but on a quiet side street. Ours was a back room, and I am glad of it, as it was pleasant green views but more quiet that the front rooms.

They are family welcoming and kind to our children. When they saw my girls looking at the koi fish in the pond at the front of the hotel, one of the staff brought out fish food for them to feed the fish :)

Room Tip: Back side rooms may be quieter. Restaurant is on the 3rd floor so 2nd floor rooms work just as wel...

Hotel Arches was the hotel we chose for our first night in Kerala having read other very good reviews. Overall our experience was good but a few little drawbacks
1) The hotel does not have a pool but this is clear from their website and so this is more of a reminder than anything!
2) The nearby beach is very littered and far from swimmable bit again, this is not the hotels fault!
3) The hotel is a little dated and basic but the staff are amazing helpful and when we asked if there was somewhere we could swim, arranged a 5 minute taxi to a contacts homestay for us where we had full use of a roof top brand new swimming pool.
4) We only had breakfast at the hotel but it was lovely and the service was superb.
5) We asked the hotel to arrange a transfer to Allepey and this was done courteously, quickly and at a sensible price.

Overall as a welcoming hotel it was great, the bathroom in our room was a little dated but this is hardly a reason for us not to come back again!

Room Tip: Its worth paying the extra for the suite we had I suspect

Hotel Arches is a small and tastefully decorated hotel. Service was excellent and they went beyond the call of duty, insisting on departing that they call the next hotel to ensure the reservation was confirmed. Rooms were clean, spacious, and the welcome drink with flowers was a lovely touch. Good location close to the water, ferry's, and old Jewish quarter. The rooftop for breakfast was really amazing, again beautifully decorated, good service and tasty breakfast. Highly recommended, and worth the higher cost.

Room Tip: The suite was very spacious and comfortable

We stayed only one night at Hotel Arches before travelling to the backwaters but wished, with hindsight that we'd stayed longer. We had a very late check in as our flight from Australia did not get in until 11 pm. This was no problem for the hotel. Our room was comfortable and spacious & the bed great after so many hours upright on a plane! Breakfast on the rooftop was lovely & after walking around Kochi in the morning, it was nice to come back for a tea on the rooftop before checking out. The location is terrific - very close to the water and sights. Staff were very welcoming and friendly. Great value for money.
