I don't know enough about hotel prices in Fort Cochin area that I can comment in this respect. However, I enjoyed my stay at Raintree Lodge, where I was given a clean, charming (air-conditioned) room with a very nice balcony. Staff also tried their best to be helpful.

Wow what a place. Large, clean, comfortable room. Very friendly, helpful staff. Great location. No restaurant but it's doesn't matter as there are plently of places to eat close by. Neat little balcony. Excellent value for money, you won't be disappointed.

Stayed here in March 2013 for 2 nights.
Situated right in the centre of Fort Cochin. Chinese fishing nets are a 5 min walk away, 'Jewtown' a short autorickshaw ride!
Friendly and helpfull staff, clean rooms with great value for money. In the same street as lots of nice reastaurants and shops. Ideal place to explore fort cochin on foot!

Room Tip: Try and get a room facing the front side of the hotel!

My sister and I stayed here for 3 nights during the Kochi Muziris Biennale art show. The location was very convenient and we could walk to most venues. The upstairs room with balcony was quite charming and adequate . Could be cleaner. Especially the bathroom . However, the air conditioner worked great and was a great help especially in the hot afternoons. Lots of options for eating close by.
What can be improved?
Coffee/ tea makers in rooms.
Tv in rooms.
Mosquito proof the property.
Wifi is a pretty standard convenience offered at most hotels these days.
The staff were friendly and helpful and organized taxis for us.
So all in all a good enough place to stay for a short visit.

Amazingly clean place with decent rooms...however during my stay on 17tg feb I was not given the rooms on first floor which I was promised...they dont serve anything and that was a negative...but the rooms were still nice with good ambience

We picked this hotel from its description in the guide books. Taking a tuk-tuk there from the ferry terminal, the driver was telling us of other hotels that had the same facilities at half the price. We declined his offer, thinking that he was just drumming up trade for other family members. In retrospect we should at least have looked. Don't get me wrong, the Raintree Lodge is a very nice place - friendly, clean, quiet and tastefully decorated (except perhaps for the bust in a niche in the room which looked just like Homer Simpson), but we felt that the fact that they have listings in Rough Guide and Lonely Planet gave them licence to bump up the prices (about 2500/- per room per night without breakfast).
Overall this is a fine place to stay, but a little overpriced.

Our tour operator recommended this place to us, and we were very happy with it. It is slightly out of the way, particularly when walking back at night, but we had no problems with that location and would recommend it. In fact it is a quiet location and that offsets any negativity to the walking back at night. The people running the placed were very friendly and cooperative. Our room was very nice, spacious, clean, and all we could hope for.
