Sunil and his wife made us very welcome in their home - our last destination and situated a convenient 40 minutes from the airport - but no aeroplane noise at all.
A lovely situation on the banks of the river and a nice swimming pool which would have been improved with some comfy pool furniture to allow for afternoon snoozes and gentle reading on the poolside.
We ate well - real home cooking by Sunil's wife - and were kindly taken out for lunch with his lovely daughter and son-in-law to a local restaurant on the nearby beach to celebrate Sunil's birthday. Sunil took us for some wonderful bird watching at the local fishing farms and we enjoyed very much looking at Sunil's fabulous bird photography and listening to 38s on his old gramophone. A good and relaxing end to our trip.

Arrived at Teak House, after a horrendous flight from London Heathrow to Cochin (remind me never to travel Economy class on a long-haul flight again!). Set on the banks of the River Periyar, in a semi-cleared forest of Teak, Banana & Coconut trees, it is very beautiful, tranquil and serene. There are only 2 houses at the end of a long, windy, private road in 6 acres of land. Some of the Teak trees were chopped down to use to build the palatial bungalow, with 2 long verandahs running the width of the bungalow at the front & back of the house. Wooden floors, teak beams, mahogany furniture, the bungalow is modelled on Victorian lines. Large bathroom, tiled floor, with large walk-in shower with 2 shower heads. Bidet included. King size, 4-poster bed, with no walls on either side of the door in the bedroom overlooking the lawn and river, but net-proofed against mosquitoes and with wooden blinds, so you had a constant, beautiful view.
Sunil and his wife Suja were very solicitous hosts, and Sunil exuded enthusiasm and joy. There were two other couples staying the same time, and Sunil insisted on taking us all out on his birthday to a hotel by the beach for a Curry Buffet lunch. On the way back he played his CD in the car and we discovered that he is a talented singer, as well as being an Ornithologist and a gifted photographer.
We were able to visit the various attractions in Cochin and attended a Kathakali performance in the evening. On another afternoon, Sunil took the group out to a bird-watching/photography excursion. One could swim in the pool and sit in peace and quiet overlooking the river.
Suja's cooking was our first taste of authentic Keralan home-cooking - spicy and delicious. Sunil was a mine of information about traditions, explaining about his daughter's arranged marriage and we got to meet the happy couple during Dad's birthday lunch.
The home-stay didn't disappoint and satisfied on all levels. Altogether a happy and memorable start to our 3-week tour of Kerala.

Room Tip: We had a large room with a four-poster bed - as the previous reviewer said, "Better than a 5-st...
