situated at the water's edge just steps away from the chinese fishing nets, the location is perfect. The hotel is well furnished in traditional style and the rooms are comfortable.
Food was excellent with a mixture of indian and international dishes. The free wi-fi was a nice bonus. Not a hotel with bling but extremely pleasant.

We stayed 2 nights in a spacious Deluxe suite on the top floor. The sitting room of our suite had windows on 3 sides, giving panoramic views over the river/sea and passing ships and boats. Very close to the Chinese fishing nets and other attractions.

The elegant hotel building is quite grand, has a waterside pool and well kept gardens. Each of the 3 restaurants is excellent, the Terrace (serving incredibly fresh fish in the evening) being particularly good. The History serves excellent local food in the evening and the Armoury is a great place for breakfast and lunch (on the terrace overlooking the water is best). Breakfast is freshly prepared and served at one's table, unusually for India.

All the staff were exceptionally charming and helpful. We particularly liked the fact that the hotel has a box for tips to be shared among all the staff, rather than individual tipping. Despite this, service did not suffer one bit.

Our package included half board, a sunset cruise and a free cookery demo.

This was the best of the 3 CGH Earth hotels we stayed in, but the other 2 (Maison Perumal in Pondicherry and Visalam near Karaikudi) were also very good. We also travelled with them for 2 nights in a 1 bedroom rice barge on the Kerala backwaters, which is an experience not to be missed.

We would highly recommend a stay at the Brunton Boatyard.

If you want to go back in time and experience good food and charming people, then this is the place for you! We have stayed there before and cant fault it.We travelled with Kerala Connections , who were exemplary in every detail!! When doing my research , i was gob smacked! to read some very negative reviews about this excellent co. from xxox. As i said i have travelled with them before and have never had such comprehensive advice and faultless service. I thoroughly recommend this company.!!

Having read the reviews extensively, and wanting to stay over the New Year, we booked very early to ensure we got the right room -209 with a balcony overlooking the swimming pool and well away from the noise from the ferries.
Airport collection was efficient but, due to road repairs and the commuter traffic, our journey was over 90 minutes including half an hour through the back street residential areas of Ernakulum and Fort Cochin so we arrived fairly knackered after our overnight Emirates flight but we were in our room within 30 minutes of our arrival.

Previous reviewers have commented on the furnishing and fittings of the bedrooms which we can confirm are really traditional and stylish. We were delighted with our room and the great views over the harbour entrance but the TV was a bit of a disappointment – only a few Indian channels, surely a hotel of this standard and price can afford SAT TV?

We used the Spa, a very good massage at half the price of Kumarakom and the complimentary sunset cruise is a must. The pool is delightful with a decent drinks and snack service.
We had our lunches, and a couple of dinners on the terrace but service can be “relaxed” and at night the mozies are a real pain. However the prices are not extortionate for such a position with sandwiches, salads, pasta and tempura prawns priced between INR250-500.
The fish restaurant is excellent but not cheap with grilled fish from INR650 and a fish/prawn platter at INR1450. Drinks are always expensive in Kerala but Sula wine could be purchased at BB for INR700 a half bottle with a full bottle at INR1230. Kingfisher was INR250 a large bottle.

The Chef made a real effort in making the New Years Eve “Governors Dinner” a success with a grand tasting menu with the theme being the “History of Kerala” with dishes from India, Nederland’s Portugal and England.
The food beautifully prepared, served, and presented was of a very high quality but as the Sitar player overran by 30 minutes by the time it was served the food was luke warm at the best. If only they had used hot plates!

There are lots to see in Cochin and we revisited the all of the sites but were again not impressed by Jew Town which has been taken over by Kashmiri traders selling antiques and overpriced shawls.
There is a very stylish area behind the Old Harbour Hotel which has lots of decent, and genuine shops and area by the Chinese fishing nets is always fun.

We enjoyed Brunton Boatyard – the staff is genuine and caring and the service is pretty good but what really makes it is the position.
We plan to return.

We stayed one night at this hotel. The building was built rather recently but in a historical style, so one finds beautiful old-style furnishings and high ceilings, but also reliable electricity and plumbing. The staff of the hotel and restaurants was superb. The location is good, although departing ferry boats can be noisy.

The one problem we noted at this hotel was at the restaurant (The History). The kitchen clearly had a problem getting dishes out on time, despite the fact that the restaurant was only half full. This took its biggest toll on breads. We were served appetizer papadums that were soggy with the texture of cardboard. Naan bread was cool and tough. We asked for replacement naan which was fine, but at a hotel with these prices this should not have been an issue. We greatly preferred the food at the Malabar House restaurant, and I would recommend going there instead.

Would I stay here again? Probably not for the price we were charged (upwards of 300 Euros) when there are so many other great traditionally-styled choices in Fort Cochin for much less money.

We stayed for two nights 20 + 21 December at the start of a tour of Kerala. Our original choice the Malabar House having 'bumped' us two weeks prior to departing the UK, we were quite glad they did as this turned out to be a luxury haven. Well situated on the shore line right next to the Chinese fishing nets, and an easy walk to the rest of Fort Cochin. The Hotel is spacious and and tastefully furnished, with excellent service throughout. The bedrooms are large with a Queen size 'four poster' bed, with a view of the sea. Definitely worth the extra money fort he experience if nothing else

I really enjoyed the service here - impeccable and had boattrip at sunset for an hour, free cooking and yoga lessons. Room and setting overlooking river were great.

Coped with the gay issue well - swiftly gave a double room when they presented a twin room (despite me clearly asking for double).

Noise from nearby ferry started early in morning which is a slight drawback. Didn't eat dinner here as looked stuffy and uninspiring although dinner outfront watching the boats was pleasant. Enjoyed dinner and lovely wine at malabar house (prob would opt to stay there next time) or what looked like a nice homestay from the outside called delight - which is prob much much cheaper. We paid a fortune but it was the xmas..

Enjoyed eating at the cheap and cheerful dal roti and nice tearoom called teapot and had cheap massages from the place next door to teapot.

Also had a great looking pool.
