As soon as you arrive, you sense the character and atmosphere of an excellent small hotel. Rooms are large and well furnished with balconies overlooking the estuary. Everything is perfectly clean and the hotel is very focussed on being environment friendly. Quality of food in the restaurants was good, but the service was a little erratic. The location is excellent if you want to experience the hustle and bustle of the town and is close to most of the historic attractions in Kochi, either walking or use the excellent tuk-tuks. Very cheap and cleanest and best maintained we saw anywhere in India.

Room Tip: Go for a room on the first floor (second if you are from North America). Good views. View from the...

This was our first stop of a 4 centres holiday in Kerala. Very clean hotel, with good facilities. The staff are polite, helpful but not too intrusive. The hotel like all the others of the same chain/group is committed to ecology, using natural resources and recycling. (They make envelops and carrier bags from newspaper.) All toiletries are in little clay pots and refilled every morning. I really recommend it but if at all possible stay more than 2 nights

Room Tip: Sea view room are the best but someone might find them a little noisy. Have earplugs with you.

Dear Sir

I truly appreciate your feedback on the hotel highlighting the aspects of sustainability and eco aspects. It starts right from the name CGH Earth, which is Clean Green healthy Earth and to offer you a holiday that is experiential as well as responsible. We take several steps to ensure that we reduce, reuse and recycle. Some of the measures are – using glass water bottles, recycle newspaper into bags and envelopes, use terracotta pots for toiletries that may be refilled, buying local produce, create awareness on water usage, and many more.

I thank you for being with us and hope to see you in future.

We had stayed here over twelve years ago & were looking forward to being here again, & we weren't disappointed. Our large room with living area & verandah which I think was an upgrade, but not requested, but gave us additional comfort. All the staff were friendly & very efficient, & the food at all meals was excellent in all restaurants. .

The location of the Hotel on the seafront next to the ferry which was not noisy but very busy, & you got a feel of this Portuguese,Dutch & English colonial town & its vibrant pace. The Ayuvedic style massage is probably very good, if you like that type of massage, but it is not our preference.

Stayed there 2 nights and enjoyed this a lot. All in a charming very British style. Rooms very nice facing the busy harbour. The hotel is in walking distance to major sites in Fort Kochin. Food was good, bur menu is limited in variety. Try the restaurant at Malabar House hotel, about 5 minutes by autorikscha. Service staff very friendly and attentive.

Room Tip: Most rooms face the harbour which can produce some noise at times, but it did not disturbe us at all...

Dear Sir

Thank you for being with us. I am happy that you have enjoyed the Brunton boatyard experience. Have noted the feedback on limited choice in the bar and we shall work on it. We however have a good collection of single malts and other imported liquor. As a policy we keep only Indian wines as we believe that the wines are coming of age and it is time to promote them. I thank you again for this review and hope to see you in your future trips to Kochi.

Brunton’s Boatyard is an excellent example of what a Heritage–type hotel can achieve. Its clean, semi-austere exterior belies a very comfortable interior (though at a price). It is one of the best seafront hotels to stay in, to see something of Kochi, with its Portuguese, Dutch and English colonial-style ancestry. Literally from the seaward facing rooms, one can see a range of fishing types and boats, ancient to very modern, passing by, which reflect the trading history that underlies Kochi’s development. One of the numerous ferries starts next door to Brunton’s and this can be somewhat noisy until 10pm closure, though starting up again at 6am – earplugs are provided by the hotel. Reception was a little ’frosty’,and the return of passports tardy: it pays to chase them up over this issue. That was probably the worst aspect of the service, as otherwise the staff are usually attentive within their defined areas. However they can be relaxed about following up requests that are not part of their defined remit. Rooms are extremely comfortable with responsive air-conditioning, good back-supporting beds and clean and well functioning bathrooms, a small table and 2 chairs. Each ground floor room has a small outside sitting-out area. Other floors have bigger rooms and suites with more space. Kettles and Brunton’s own treated drinking water are available with a selection of teas and coffee (not a tea bag or coffee carton in sight) in all rooms. TV and DVD are available, and there is reasonable daily wi-fi connection, though the usual slow-down c 3-6pm in server access found in most Indian hotels strikes here as well. There is a shortage of recharge points: the only one I found was in the bathroom. There are three eating-places in the hotel: breakfast in the Armoury was a little slow at the 7.30am start. Staff are attentive, but English is not always well understood, so some variation in meeting needs can occur. These are slight issues, and by the time you get to the Roof-top, open-air terrace and the delights of both seafood and shellfish menus, Kerela style, all can be forgiven! There is also an air-conditioned restaurant. I was told that it was best to reserve places for evening eating. The a/c restaurant was never full, but the roof-terrace was always busy, quite justifiably so. In brief this is an excellent establishment and a haven of outward heritage virtues. The only difficulty for me is the experience could be greatly improved by some stronger management of younger staff. I do not want to chase a daily return of laundry at 11pm, only to find it was next day before it came back. Brunton’s do need to have firmer staff direction, where it is shown, the differences in service are self-evident.

We did not stay in this hotel although we had a lunch on a previous visit. The 4 hands Kerala aurvedic massage was of of the highest quality. The staff were very professional and well groomed. The 45 minute full body massage ended with a 10 minute steam bath. Highly recommended if you are staying in any other hotel in Fort Kochi

Room Tip: Book in advance as they have only 4 therapists. Personalized service guaranteed

We planned and spend 1 month in South India in January 2014. We selected hotels based upon Trip Advisor recommendations that included the Brunton Boatyard. The hotel had a colonial era feel, had a lovely pool and evening cruises of the Vembanad Lake (included in the hotel charge). Our room was lovely and had a private porch overlooking the lake. The service was excellent, for example, when we had to leave early (before breakfast) they packed us a lovely breakfast to go. This was one of our favorite hotels in this trip - we stayed at 14 different hotels on this trip.

Room Tip: Try to avoid rooms on the ferry side of the hotel, that can be noisy.
