“A little disappointed in my trip”

I had seen Willingdon Island as i passed by on other ferry trips.
I was a foot passenger travelling from Fort Kochi so arrived at a different disembarkation point than that from Ernakulam. This was a street full with lorries. When I did make my way up the road and found what i had seen from the ferry. It seemed to have a strong military presence and i was not to take pictures. This didn't have a good feel for me - and i didn't stay. I returned by bus to Fort Kochi, nice journey over the bridge. I have thought, there was probably more to Willingdon Island than I actually saw, and perhaps i didn't give it a chance! It is possibly too big to explore on foot - perhaps i should have taken a Tuk Tuk.

Its not a tourist place as such. It is a place where you get to see the commercial activities happening in Cochin. The tourist spot is at the Northern End of the Island.

This island is area where Cochin port is located. More than passenger cruises, good vessels are the main occupants at the port.

Very close to ernakulam town and its a beautiful location. Its bit crowded always. You should not miss this location when you are in Cochin.

Willingdon Island was build as a terminus for the spice trade. Railway lines run from the Keralan hills, down to its godowns, and from them the goods could be easily shipped to the world. Unless you're interested in this local history, the main reason for going to the island is to visit the Vivanta by Taj hotel, superbly sited at the end of the island with excellent views over the waterways and all their activities.
Ten minutes (and 5R) fby ferry from Mattancherry.

good place to hang out . But not safe after 6PM. This place is a manmade island . It stations the INS Garuda of the Southern Naval Command.
