I liked walking through the narrow streets with old buildings on either side. They all seemed to be telling stories of an era gone by!! Sad thing is that there are not many jewish famillies left - all have gone back to their homeland. The synagogue is still preserved well - clean and the pictures on the walls tell the history of the place in a very lucid manner. The work on the tiles on the floor of the synagogue is amazing - all in blue and white with no two tiles alike!!!!

Most of Jew Town was closed on Sunday. So we missed the hustle and bustle, but we did soak in the peace and quiet and managed to see things that go beyond the chaos of the regular market.

One place you should miss is the Jew Street. The Synagogue is one of the oldest that you can find. Not many Jews left in Cochin since they all have left to the Promised Land. If you are a Antique lover or collector, this is one place you shouldn't miss.

Jew Town was constructed in 1568 is the oldest synagogue in the Commonwealth. Destroyed in a shelling during the Portuguese raid in 1662, it was rebuilt two years later by the Dutch. The area around the Synagogue is a centre of spice trade and curio shops. 15 minutes by ferry from Kochi Town .
