“"Feel like home" Stay in Fort Cochin”
Reviewed July 16, 2012

We stayed 2 nights in Nathan's Holiday Home and enjoyed to have almost our own home! The room is clean, the bathroom is excellent, the location is very good (a few minutes from the beach) and the Rooftop + the living room + the kitchen at your disposal are just great! An excellent ratio Price/Quality, and a very very sympathetic owner! Think about this place for your next stay in Fort Cochin!

We rented the whole of Nathan’s from mid-September to mid-November of 2011. You can rent just one of the two en suite bedrooms and have the use of the rest of the house - which consists of a good kitchen, living room/dining room and rooftop area as well as a nice front porch w/ fan. Bedroom doors have their own locks as do the front and back house doors. Nathan's is in the middle of a nice quiet middle-class Indian neighborhood. The property has a large gate at front and back and high walls but neighbors all seem to look out for each others place anyway. We always felt secure, day or night, at home or walking around the neighborhood.

Colbridge, the owner, is very welcoming, honest and helpful, and he bent over backwards to make us comfortable at Nathan’s (named after his delightful son). Although he does not live on site, Colbridge was always readily available when needed (via house phone). Colbridge is a fluent English speaker who runs his own web company both on Kochi and the US, and is a great source of information about local culture and where to eat and shop!

We were looking for a place where we could relax, live in and learn about the Fort Cochin community, and Nathan’s was ideal. We could prepare meals, do laundry when needed (washing machine and covered roof drying), surf the ‘Net (wi-fi that works!) or relax in front of the TV when we needed a day off – it was like being at home in India. Perhaps the biggest bonus was the kitchen water filter! We bought hardly any bottled water our whole time in Cochin. Colbridge has also installed a large battery that keeps some essential lights and fans going during power cuts.

Nathan’s is very well located, on a quiet residential lane with nice neighbors, but within a stroll of everything else you might need or want to see in Fort Cochin. We liked the honest and friendly fruit seller around the corner on Bishop Rd., and our favorite restaurant, the justifiably famous but reasonable Dal Roti, is just a short walk away as is the beach promenade for watching the sunset. An added benefit to the location - the local auto rickshaw drivers on Bishop Rd. are, for the most part, more reasonable than the loquacious Ferrari/Porsche types not far away that live on tourist shop commissions rather than fares. Don’t hesitate to use the local drivers to go across town to the colorful Mattancherry district, day or night.

Bottom line – Nathan's Holiday Home is a great place at a reasonable price to relax and discover Fort Cochin and to use as a base for discovering the rest of Kerala.

Room Tip: Both bedrooms are fine with built-in storage, A/C, ceiling fan and long double bed. The back one may...

I have rented this beautiful property on three different occasions. (On one occasion for 5 months.) I have always found it very private, and to have everything that you would need. A great aspect of the house to me was that it is totally gated and as a lone traveller you feel very safe and secure.
It is only a sort walk to Fort Cochin shopping, cafe's, antique shops and much more. Just at the top of the street there is a fresh vege store and small shops selling everything that you might need.
The Owner (Colbridge) and his family are only a phone call away and are very helpful with anything that you might need help with, but at the same time respect your privacy.
Would not consider renting any other property should I be over that way again!!!

Nathan's Holiday Home is probably the best long-time rental opportunity in Fort Kochin. My boyfriend and I shared a half of the house for a month and we had everything we needed at the time: air-conditioned bedroom, hot and especially cold shower, wifi, a small but cozy kitchen and even a wash-machine. Also the place on a rooftop is extremely romantic at night (at the daytime it is also extremely hot).
We became friends with the owner, Colbridge, who showed us some real India and was a great supporter when we fell off the bike and needed some medical help.
Would recommend to a friend.

Room Tip: Choose a larger room or take both.

Myself and two friends shared this roomy two bedroom property in Fort Cochin for several days back in Feb. 2012. We loved the quiet neighborhood, and the fact that it was walkable to many restaurants and to the Chinese fishing net/market area. I had never been to India before, but we three American ladies felt pretty safe walking the streets around Nathan's. The place was clean, and the bedrooms had powerful and fairly quiet air conditioning - a huge plus in this type of climate!! The proprietor is very responsive, speaks excellent English, and was extra helpful about arranging drivers for us so we could take side trips. It's also possible to order delivery of Indian breakfast, which was delicious and convenient. We wound up doing it every day. There is a portable washing machine and a roof deck on which to dry your clothes - extremely handy if you are traveling light. I would surely come back to Nathan's again if I visited Cochin.
